Chumphon vs Trang: Companies and Revenue Compared (2026)
In short
Chumphon runs 5,350 registered companies against Trang's 6,033, a gap of 683. Trang's larger business register does not translate into more revenue per firm. Chumphon's average company reports 28.7 million baht in revenue, against 18.6 million baht in Trang, 54 percent more. Chumphon ranks 11th nationally on revenue per company out of 77 provinces. Trang ranks 24th. Fewer companies clearly out earn more companies here.
Which province earns more per company, Chumphon or Trang?
Chumphon counts 5,350 registered companies (DBD, 2026). Trang counts 6,033, so Trang has 683 more. That gap is modest by Thai standards, just 12.8 percent. Flip the measure to revenue per company and Chumphon pulls well ahead. The average Chumphon company reports 28.7 million baht in revenue, a rank of 11th out of 77 provinces nationally. The average Trang company reports 18.6 million baht, a rank of 24th. Chumphon's average firm earns 54 percent more revenue than Trang's average firm. Both provinces still sit below the national average of 40.3 million baht per company, but Chumphon closes far more of that gap than Trang does. A smaller business register in Chumphon is not a weaker one.

Why the gap matters
Chumphon and Trang sit on opposite coasts of the same stretch of peninsular Thailand, yet their company registers run on different crops. Chumphon is one of the country's leading palm oil growing provinces, and plantation and milling operations tend to post far larger revenue per firm than a small trading shop or a single restaurant (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, 2023). Trang's economy leans more on rubber, fishing and a smaller tourism trade built around its old town and nearby islands, a mix that supports a wider spread of small operators without concentrating revenue in as few hands. The province level data used here does not break revenue down by industry, so that remains a reasonable explanation rather than a confirmed one. What the numbers do confirm is the direction. A province with fewer registered companies can still out earn a neighbor with more of them, and Chumphon's position 11th nationally on revenue per company, well ahead of Trang's 24th, shows that company formation and revenue efficiency are two different scoreboards. A policymaker chasing registration counts should study Trang. One chasing revenue per registered firm should study Chumphon.
Definitions
- Registered company
- A juristic person recorded in the DBD registry, whether or not it has ever filed a financial statement or is currently active.
- Aggregate revenue
- The sum of the latest filed financial statement revenue across all companies registered in a province, not a single fiscal year total for the province's economy.
- Average revenue per company
- Aggregate provincial revenue divided by the total count of registered companies in that province, including non filers, used here as a province wide intensity measure.
- National rank
- The position of a province among the 77 named Thai provinces, Bangkok included, when every named province is sorted from highest to lowest on a given measure such as company count or revenue per company.
Assumptions
- Total revenue per province is a stock of the latest filed statement across all years, not a single fiscal year snapshot, so it should be read as reported business scale rather than annual GDP.
- Average revenue per company divides by every registered company, including those that never filed a statement, so it understates the average among companies that actually report.
- Provincial registration reflects where a company is registered, which for some businesses may differ from where day to day operations happen.
- The province level table does not break revenue down by industry, so the palm oil and rubber explanation offered here is a reasonable inference rather than a verified split of either province's revenue.
- Two rows in the source table carry no province name and were excluded from the 77 province ranking denominator used throughout this page.
Methodology
Figures are aggregate registered company counts and aggregate reported revenue for Chumphon and Trang from the Department of Business Development registry, compiled in the market_province_insight table as of 17 July 2026. Revenue is the sum of the latest filed financial statement revenue for every company registered in each province, regardless of filing year, so it is a stock of reported activity rather than a single fiscal year figure. Average revenue per company divides total provincial revenue by total registered company count, including companies that have never filed a statement, so it is a province wide intensity measure rather than an average among only the companies that report. National ranks are computed by sorting all 77 named Thai provinces, Bangkok included, on each measure. Two additional rows in the source table carry no province name and are excluded from the ranking denominator.
How we verified this
- Company count gap recomputed as 6033 minus 5350 equals 683, matching the stated gap and confirming Trang has 12.8 percent more companies than Chumphon.
- Average revenue per company recomputed for Chumphon as 153527454323.69 divided by 5350 equals 28,696,720 baht, rounded to 28.7 million.

- Total revenue ratio recomputed as 153527454323.69 divided by 112187268786.72 equals 1.3685, confirming Chumphon's total revenue is 36.8 percent higher than Trang's despite 683 fewer companies.
