How many companies are registered in Thailand?

Thailand's official company registry holds 1,989,709 registered juristic persons as of 2 July 2026. Of those, 1,239,700 have filed at least one financial statement, which is 62.3 percent of the registry. The companies that file report roughly 76.6 trillion baht of combined annual revenue and an average net profit margin of 4.4 percent. The count covers every registered company, not a sample, so it is the fullest single view of the Thai corporate economy available from the registry.

The share that reports financials

Only about six in ten registered companies file financial statements. The rest are dormant, newly formed, or exempt, so revenue and profit figures on this page describe the 1,239,700 filers, while the headcount of 1,989,709 describes the full registry.

Figures in new companies.

New registrations climbed for more than a decade, peaked at 151,205 in 2021, then settled near 120,000 to 130,000 a year.

Why this matters

Two numbers tell most of the story. First, the registry is heavily weighted toward trade and construction: wholesale and retail trade plus construction together make up half of all registered companies, yet manufacturing, with far fewer firms, reports a similar amount of revenue. That gap between headcount and revenue is where a lot of Thai business value sits. Second, company formation has roughly quadrupled since 2007, and even after the 2021 peak it remains far above its pre-pandemic level, so the base of registered companies keeps growing each year.

Assumptions

Methodology

Figures are computed from Thailand's official company registry, maintained by the Department of Business Development (DBD) under the Ministry of Commerce, as of 2 July 2026. A company here means a registered juristic person. Headcount figures (1,989,709) cover the full registry. Revenue, margin and return figures cover the 1,239,700 companies that have filed at least one financial statement, so they are stated separately from the headcount. Sector counts follow the standard TSIC sections. Sector counts in the table sum to 1,986,489; the remaining 3,220 companies (0.16 percent) do not carry a sector code and are omitted from the sector table. Revenue totals are rounded to the nearest 0.01 trillion baht.
