Thai Industry Codes With Only One to Three Large Firms (2026)
In short
Of 1,228 five-digit industry codes, 737 contain at least one large company as of 17 July 2026. Exactly 126 of them have a single large firm. Another 82 have two and 50 have three. Together that is 258 codes, or 35.0 percent of the 737, where a handful of large firms define the whole niche.
How many industry codes rest on one, two or three large firms?
Thailand's registry splits the economy into 1,228 five-digit TSIC codes (DBD, 2026). Of those, 737 hold at least one large company and 491 hold none. Among the 737, exactly 126 have a single large firm. Another 82 have two and 50 have three. That makes 258 codes, or 35.0 percent, where the large end of the market is a one, two or three firm affair. The single-firm case alone is 17.1 percent of the 737, more common than the two-firm case at 11.1 percent and the three-firm case at 6.8 percent.

Codes with no large company are shown first. The single-firm bar is taller than the two-firm and three-firm bars, so the count falls as a second and third large firm arrive.

Codes with at least one large company, split by large-company count, for sections with at least 8 such codes. As of 17 Jul 2026.
Which sectors are the most thinly populated at the top?
Agriculture is the sharpest case. Of 25 agricultural codes with a large firm, 14 have exactly one, and 20 of the 25 have three or fewer, which is 80.0 percent. Education has 7 of its 8 codes in that group. Other services has 8 of 9. Arts and entertainment has 9 of 12. These are small sections, so a few codes move the share a lot. Manufacturing is the opposite. It has 322 codes with a large firm, yet only 109 of them, or 33.9 percent, have three or fewer. Wholesale and retail trade is more crowded still at 18.4 percent. Construction has just 3 of 20 codes in the thin group, or 15.0 percent.
Why this matters
A code with one large company is not a market in the usual sense. It is a niche where that firm sets the pace, and a buyer, supplier or competitor can map the whole top tier on one page. For a lender, the risk sits in a single balance sheet. For a new entrant, the benchmark for scale is one name. For a policymaker, the 126 single-firm codes are where a merger or exit would change the structure overnight. The 288 codes with ten or more large firms are a different game. This page counts firms by size band and does not measure market share, so a code with one large firm can still have many strong medium firms next to it.
Definitions
- TSIC
- Thailand Standard Industrial Classification, the national scheme that assigns each company to an industry code. Five-digit codes are the finest level.
- Large company
- A company in the registry's large size band, the top of four bands: micro, small, medium and large.
- Industry section
- One of the lettered top-level TSIC groups, such as manufacturing or agriculture.
- Single-firm code
- A five-digit industry code that contains exactly one large company.
Assumptions
- Size bands are taken as assigned in the registry and may lag a company's current scale.
- A company is counted in the single code recorded for its main activity.
- Five-digit codes have no public names in this dataset, so industries are described by section only.
- Counting large firms is not the same as measuring market share or concentration.
Methodology
Counts come from the Department of Business Development registry as aggregated by Max Data, with rows computed on 17 July 2026. Each of the 1,228 five-digit TSIC codes carries a count of large companies, using the size band assigned in the registry. A code is counted as having exactly one, two or three large companies when that count equals 1, 2 or 3. Section figures sum the code counts within each lettered TSIC section. Shares are computed against the 737 codes with at least one large company. Size bands are registry classifications, not estimates.
How we verified this
- Code bands sum to the total: 126 + 82 + 50 + 191 + 288 = 737 codes with at least one large company.
- Codes with no large company: 1,228 - 737 = 491.
- One to three large firms: 126 + 82 + 50 = 258, and 258 / 737 = 35.0 percent.
- Single-firm share: 126 / 737 = 17.1 percent. Two-firm share: 82 / 737 = 11.1 percent. Three-firm share: 50 / 737 = 6.8 percent.
- Section single-firm counts sum to the total: 43 + 17 + 6 + 3 + 6 + 6 + 14 + 4 + 3 + 5 + 5 + 4 + 5 + 3 + 2 = 126 across all sections with any single-firm code.
- Agriculture: 20 over 25 = 80.0 percent. Manufacturing: 109 / 322 = 33.9 percent. Wholesale and retail: 27 / 147 = 18.4 percent. Construction: 3 / 20 = 15.0 percent.
- Large companies summed across all codes equal 13,875, against the 13,876 national size-band count. The one-company gap is small and likely comes from a company whose code is not classified, which this page does not test.
