Thailand's Newly Emerged 5-Digit Industry Codes Since 2015

Updated 7 September 2026Data as of 14 August 2026Verified

In short

Seven Thai industry codes filed zero company statements in 2015 and now count 463 combined, as of 14 August 2026. Company counts across the seven range from 20 to 288 each. Four of the seven sit inside agriculture, forestry and fishing. The other three span wholesale trade, information and communication, and human health. Each code's first filing lands between 2016 and 2021, years after the rest of the registry was already active. Ninety two percent of the companies carrying these seven codes are still active today, well above the fifty percent active share for the registry as a whole.

Which industry codes went from nothing to dozens?

Seven five-digit TSIC codes carried no filed financial statement anywhere in the 2015 statement year, then grew into real clusters of companies (DBD, 2026). Code 01122, in agriculture, forestry and fishing, is the largest, with 288 companies filing in 2025. Code 01222, also agriculture, follows at 48. Code 60203, information and communication, comes next at 37. Code 47812, wholesale and retail trade, sits at 27. Code 01191, agriculture, sits at 22. Code 01224, also agriculture, sits at 21. Code 87202, human health and social work, closes the list at 20. Four of these seven codes are agriculture codes, which makes agriculture the dominant home for this pattern even though the single largest code by far outnumbers the rest combined.

Why a handful of unnamed codes matter

The registry does not name these five-digit codes, only the twenty one lettered sections above them, so a reader cannot know from this data alone what 01122 or 60203 actually make or sell. What the numbers do show is a clean formation pattern hiding inside a huge, mostly static classification list of over a thousand codes. Something in agriculture, in a narrow slice of digital services, in a narrow slice of retail, and in a narrow slice of health services started attracting Thai incorporations after 2015 that simply were not there before. Thailand's own agricultural export push, which the International Trade Administration tracks as a growing share of the country's trade with the world, is the kind of macro shift that plausibly seeds new registrations in adjacent five-digit codes over a decade (International Trade Administration, 2025). The active share among these seven codes, at 92.45 percent, is far above the national average of 50.0 percent, which fits a population of companies that mostly formed recently and has not yet had time to go dormant. A code with dozens of companies is not a headline industry. It is a small, verifiable signal that the shape of Thai business keeps shifting in places the 21 broad sections never show.

Definitions

Five-digit TSIC code
The most granular level of Thailand's Standard Industrial Classification, sitting beneath the 21 broad lettered sections. The registry used here does not carry a public name for each five-digit code.
Filed companies in a year
The count of companies that submitted a financial statement for that statement year under a given industry code. A code with zero here had no such filing that year, not necessarily zero registered companies.
Buddhist calendar year
Thailand's official calendar, which runs 543 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar. Statement year 2558 is 2015 and statement year 2568 is 2025.
Entity count
The total number of companies currently registered under a code, active and inactive combined, as of the latest snapshot rather than a single filing year.
Active company
A company the registry currently classifies as operating, as opposed to inactive or dissolved.
Survival rate
The share of a code's currently registered companies that are active, calculated as active companies divided by total registered companies for that code.

Assumptions

Methodology

Counts come from DBD company filings aggregated by five-digit TSIC industry code and statement year, as of 14 August 2026. A code is treated as having zero companies in a year when the aggregate table carries no row for that code and year, meaning no company filed a financial statement under that code that year, not that the code was newly added to the classification system. Statement years in the source system run on the Buddhist calendar, so year 2558 is 2015 and year 2568 is 2025, and every year on this page has been converted to the Gregorian calendar. The current statement year, 2026, is excluded because its filings are still incomplete. Company counts, active counts and survival rates for the seven codes are drawn from the current aggregate snapshot and are not restricted to a single filing year.

Frequently asked questions

How many Thai industry codes went from zero companies in 2015 to dozens or more today?

Seven five-digit TSIC codes carried no filed statement in 2015 and now range from 20 to 288 filed companies each in 2025, 463 combined.

Which industry section do these newly emerged codes mostly belong to?

Agriculture, forestry and fishing, which holds four of the seven codes. The remaining three sit in wholesale and retail trade, information and communication, and human health and social work.

Does zero companies in 2015 mean the industry code did not exist yet?

Not necessarily. It means no company filed a financial statement under that code that year in the DBD registry. The code may have existed in the classification system with no companies using it.

Are these seven codes still active today?

Mostly yes. 92.45 percent of the companies carrying these codes are active, compared with a 50.0 percent active share across the whole registry.
