Thailand's Top 5-Digit TSIC Codes by Company Count 2026
In short
165,550 companies in Thailand carry TSIC code 41002, an unnamed construction code, making it the single largest 5-digit industry code in the country as of 7 July 2026. That is 8.32 percent of every registered company in Thailand. The next largest code, 68102 in real estate, holds 59,095 companies, less than half as many. Two of the top five codes belong to the construction section. Together the top five codes hold 351,016 companies, 17.64 percent of the national total, and the registry cannot spell out what any of them actually do.
Which unnamed codes carry the most companies?
Thailand's business registry does not say what TSIC code 41002 actually covers. It only records the count, and that count is striking. As of 7 July 2026, 165,550 companies carry this single five digit code, more than any other code in the country, according to the Department of Business Development, 2026. That is 8.32 percent of every company registered in Thailand, sitting inside one unnamed line of a classification table. The code sits inside section F, construction, and it alone holds more companies than the entire real estate section, which totals 149,618 companies across nine separate codes. Second place belongs to 68102, a real estate code, with 59,095 companies, so the top code runs 2.8 times larger. Two of the five biggest codes trace back to construction. Together 41002 and 41001 hold 203,989 companies, 71.94 percent of every construction company in Thailand.

Why an unnamed number matters
An unnamed code holding 165,550 companies is not a rounding error. It is the single biggest concentration of registered businesses in Thailand, and nobody outside the Department of Business Development can say precisely what those businesses build. The five digit level of TSIC exists to separate general contractors from specialty trades, hotels from serviced apartments, but the public description field stops at the twenty one lettered sections. That gap matters for anyone sizing a market inside construction or real estate rather than the sector as a whole. It matters for lenders too. A code holding more companies than the whole real estate section deserves a name, not just a number, if banks and researchers are meant to use this data with confidence. Until that description field is filled in, the most common business activity in the country stays officially unspecified.
Definitions
- TSIC
- Thailand Standard Industrial Classification, a five digit code system that assigns every registered company one primary industry activity, built on the international ISIC standard.
- 5-digit code
- The most detailed level of TSIC classification. The registry publishes a name for the 21 lettered sections above it but not for individual 5-digit codes.
- Entity count
- The total number of companies ever registered under a code, including both currently active and inactive companies.
- Survival rate
- The share of companies registered under a code that remain active today, calculated as active companies divided by total companies.
- Net margin
- Aggregate net profit divided by aggregate revenue for companies under a code that filed a financial statement.
- Section
- One of 21 broad industry letters, such as F for construction or L for real estate, that groups related 5-digit TSIC codes.
Assumptions
- Entity counts include inactive and dormant companies alongside active ones, since a TSIC code is assigned at registration and does not change with operating status.
- Because 5-digit code descriptions are not published, the specific sub-activity behind each code cannot be confirmed beyond its parent section.
- Shares are calculated against Thailand's total of 1,989,709 registered companies as the whole-economy denominator.
Methodology
Company counts are entity_count values from the Department of Business Development's TSIC-level aggregate table, drawn from the registry as of 7 July 2026. Each 5-digit TSIC code represents one industry classification a company can hold, and entity counts include both active and inactive companies since the code assignment does not change with operating status. Description text for individual 5-digit codes is not published in this dataset, so codes here are identified by number and by their parent 21 letter section only. Every share and ratio was recomputed directly from the raw counts, not taken from a pre-built ranking table.
How we verified this
- 165550 divided by 59095 equals 2.80, confirming the top code runs nearly three times larger than the second ranked code.
- 165550 divided by 1989709, Thailand's total registered companies, equals 0.0832, so code 41002 alone holds 8.32 percent of the national total.
- 165550 plus 59095 plus 51204 plus 38439 plus 36728 equals 351016, and 351016 divided by 1989709 equals 0.1764, so the top five codes hold 17.64 percent of all registered companies.
- 165550 plus 38439 equals 203989, and 203989 divided by 283564, the total company count across all 32 construction codes, equals 0.7194, so two unnamed codes hold 71.94 percent of every construction company.
- 165550 exceeds 149618, the total company count across all nine real estate codes, by 15932, so one unnamed construction code alone outnumbers the entire real estate section.
