Chon Buri vs Phuket: Companies and Revenue Compared (2026)
In short
Chon Buri counts 127,023 registered companies against 52,557 in Phuket, a gap of 2.4 times. Revenue tells a sharper story. Chon Buri companies report 3.81 trillion baht against Phuket's 404 billion baht, a gap of 9.4 times. An industrial coastal province built around the Eastern Economic Corridor generates almost four times as much revenue per company as a tourism island of similar business density.
How does Chon Buri stack up against Phuket?
Chon Buri is not a small step ahead of Phuket by company count, it is 2.4 times larger (DBD, 2026). Chon Buri counts 127,023 registered companies. Phuket counts 52,557. Chon Buri holds the number two spot nationally for company count, trailing only Bangkok. Phuket ranks seventh. The revenue gap dwarfs the count gap. Why the gap matters
Chon Buri sits inside the Eastern Economic Corridor alongside Rayong and Chachoengsao, a zone the government has spent almost a decade steering toward petrochemicals, electronics and now data centers (EECO, 2026). That kind of investment produces companies with heavy fixed assets and large contract revenue, which is exactly what shows up in a 30 million baht average turnover. Phuket's economy runs on a completely different logic. Its companies are built around guest nights, dive trips and restaurant covers, activity that spreads revenue across many small operators rather than concentrating it in a few capital heavy firms. Neither model is better on its own terms. Chon Buri's revenue is tied to global manufacturing cycles and industrial investment approvals. Phuket's revenue is tied to international arrivals and currency swings that affect how far a foreign visitor's budget stretches. A province chasing tourism led growth should not expect Chon Buri style revenue per company without Chon Buri style capital intensity, and a province chasing industrial growth should not expect Phuket style job creation per baht invested.
Definitions
- Registered company
- A juristic person recorded in the DBD registry, whether or not it has ever filed a financial statement or is currently active.
- Aggregate revenue
- The sum of the latest filed financial statement revenue across all companies registered in a province, not a single fiscal year total for the province's economy.
- Average revenue per company
- Aggregate provincial revenue divided by the total count of registered companies in that province, including non filers, used here as a province wide intensity measure.
- Eastern Economic Corridor
- A government designated investment zone covering Chon Buri, Rayong and Chachoengsao, aimed at attracting advanced manufacturing, logistics and technology investment.
Assumptions
- Total revenue per province is a stock of the latest filed statement across all years, not a single fiscal year snapshot, so it should be read as reported business scale rather than annual GDP.
- Average revenue per company divides by every registered company, including those that never filed a statement, so it understates the average among companies that actually report.
- Provincial registration reflects where a company is registered, which for some holding structures may differ from where its operations physically take place.
Methodology
Figures are aggregate registered company counts and aggregate reported revenue for Chon Buri and Phuket from the Department of Business Development registry, as compiled in the market_province_insight table as of 17 July 2026. Revenue is the sum of the latest filed financial statement revenue for every company registered in each province, regardless of filing year, so it is a stock of reported activity rather than a single fiscal year figure. Average revenue per company divides total provincial revenue by total registered company count in that province, including companies that have not filed a statement, so it understates true average revenue among filers and should be read as a province wide intensity measure rather than a per filer average.
