Updated 15 July 2026Data as of 7 July 2026Verified

In short

Forty one point two percent of every Thai company with a known founding year was registered in just five calendar years, all of them since 2019. Thailand's registry holds 1,561,866 companies with a dated founding year across 19 years, from 2007 to 2025. The five busiest years, 2021, 2025, 2020, 2024 and 2022, added 643,829 new companies between them. The other fourteen years produced the remaining 58.8 percent. Registration did not climb steadily, it surged.

Do boom years dominate Thailand's company register?

Yes, decisively. Forty one point two percent of every Thai company with a known founding year was registered in just five calendar years. The registry carries 1,561,866 companies with a dated founding year, spread across 19 years from 2007 to 2025 (DBD, 2026). Five of those years, 2021, 2025, 2020, 2024 and 2022, produced 643,829 of them. Every one of the five falls in 2019 or later, none earlier. The other 14 years produced the remaining 58.8 percent, but each of those years averaged only 65,574 new companies against 128,766 in an average boom year. A boom year outproduces an ordinary year by nearly two to one.

Why the concentration matters

Concentration on this scale changes how the whole register should be read. Any survival rate or vintage study built on the full 1,561,866 company population is quietly dominated by cohorts that are barely a few years old. A company founded in 2021 has had far less time to fail, merge or go dormant than one founded in 2010, so averaging all 19 years into one survival figure flatters the register. Four of the five busiest years on record, 2021, 2025, 2024 and 2020, sit inside the last five years alone. That means the register's age structure, its industry mix and its provincial mix are all being reshaped right now by companies that have barely had a chance to prove themselves. Anyone comparing today's company count against an earlier benchmark year should first check which vintage of company they are actually counting.

Definitions

Dated company
A company in the registry whose founding year is known and recorded, as opposed to one with a missing or unrecorded founding year.
Boom year
One of the five founding years, out of the 19 measured, with the highest count of new company registrations.
Partial year
The current calendar year, 2026, which is still in progress at the time of measurement and therefore not comparable to a completed year.
Founding year
The calendar year in which a company was first registered with the Department of Business Development, used here in the Gregorian calendar.

Assumptions

Methodology

New company counts by founding year are drawn from the DBD registry as aggregated in market_new_companies_insight, as of 7 July 2026. The 19 year window covers founding years 2007 through 2025. The current year, 2026, is a partial year with 110,866 companies recorded so far and is excluded from every total and share in this analysis so the comparison is not distorted by an unfinished year. Founding year reflects each company's registration date, not its size or industry. The five boom years were identified by ranking the 19 dated years by new company count and taking the five highest. Figures are counts of registration events and are not adjusted for later dissolution or amalgamation.
