The 2020s created 756,290 new companies between 2020 and 2025, and that cohort is only six years deep (DBD, 2026). The entire 2010s, a full ten years, added 706,885. The 2020s opened through a pandemic, yet 2021 still produced the record 151,205 registrations. Low cost incorporation, online filing, and small operators turning informal work into registered firms all push the same way. The World Bank has tracked an uneven Thai recovery since 2021, with output growth near 2.5 percent in 2024 (World Bank, 2025). Company creation has outpaced that headline growth by a wide margin. The 2010s and 2020s cohorts together account for 1,463,175 of the 1,989,709 companies on the register, close to 74 percent of every company Thailand has ever recorded. Most of corporate Thailand was born since 2010.
Definitions
- Decade cohort
- A group of companies sorted by the decade in which they were first registered. The 2010s cohort covers registrations from 2010 to 2019 and the 2020s cohort covers 2020 onward.
- New registration
- A juristic person newly recorded on the Department of Business Development registry in a given year, counted at the moment of registration.
- Average annual pace
- A cohort's total new registrations divided by the number of years it covers, giving a like for like yearly rate that compares a partial decade with a full one.
- Partial decade
- A decade that is not yet complete. The 2020s cohort here holds only six years of data, 2020 to 2025, so its total is still growing.
Assumptions
- Companies are assigned to a decade by their year of registration, not by whether they are still active today.
- The 2020s cohort is incomplete and covers only six years, so its lead over the 2010s can only widen.
- Average annual pace figures are rounded to the nearest whole company.
- External output growth from the World Bank is context only and does not affect the registry counts.
Methodology
Counts are new juristic persons registered with the Department of Business Development, grouped by the calendar year of registration and summed into decade cohorts, drawn from the registry as of 2 July 2026. The 2010s cohort spans 2010 to 2019, ten full years. The 2020s cohort spans 2020 to 2025, six years, so it is a partial decade by design. Average annual pace is the cohort total divided by the number of years counted, rounded to the nearest whole company.
