How many provinces fall under each revenue line?

Sixty-eight of Thailand's 77 provinces each hold under 1 percent of national corporate revenue (DBD, 2026). That is 88.3 percent of the country by province count. The 1 percent line works out to 801.5 billion baht, measured against national revenue of 80.15 trillion baht. Cut the line in half and 60 provinces remain below it. Cut it in half again, to 0.25 percent or 200.4 billion baht, and 54 provinces still qualify. Only nine provinces clear 1 percent, and one of them is Bangkok at 63.07 percent.

Bangkok and the tiny provinces

Samut Songkhram books 57.3 billion baht of revenue, 0.0715 percent of the national total. Lampang books 76.5 billion baht, 0.0955 percent. Bangkok earns 660.6 times Lampang's revenue. Bangkok earns 8,343 times the revenue of Mae Hong Son, the smallest province at 6.1 billion baht. The next four provinces after Bangkok are Samut Prakan at 6.02 percent, Chon Buri at 4.76 percent, Rayong at 3.99 percent and Pathum Thani at 2.62 percent. Add the five and you reach 80.45 percent of all corporate revenue.

Registered corporate revenue by province, ranked, with share of the 80.15 trillion baht national total.

Why this matters

A national average hides a country with one engine and a long tail. Sixty-eight provinces share 12.82 percent of revenue, while Bangkok alone holds 63.07 percent. For a lender, a supplier or a policy planner, a province that earns under 0.25 percent is not a small version of the capital. It is a different market, with fewer filers and thinner depth. One caveat belongs here. Revenue is booked where a company registers, so a firm headquartered in Bangkok with factories upcountry counts its sales in the capital. Official output data from the national accounts spreads activity differently. NESDC put Bangkok at 6,142,910 million baht of 17,954,667 million baht gross product in 2023, a 34.2 percent share (NESDC, 2025). The registry share of 63.07 percent is nearly double that, and the gap is the headquarters effect. The ladder measures where companies sit on paper. It does not measure where people work.

Definitions

Share of national revenue
A province's total reported revenue divided by total reported revenue of all registered companies in Thailand.
Threshold ladder
A series of cutoffs, here 1, 0.5, 0.25 and 0.1 percent of national revenue, used to count how many provinces fall below each.
Registered province
The province in a company's registered address with the DBD, which may differ from where it operates.
Aggregate
A sum across all companies in a group, rather than an average of individual companies.

Assumptions

Methodology

Province revenue is the sum of total revenue from filed financial statements of registered companies, grouped by registered province, from the Department of Business Development registry as of 17 July 2026. Each share divides province revenue by national total revenue of 80,146,498,562,463.62 baht. Thailand has 76 provinces plus Bangkok, 77 in all. Rows with no province recorded, 572 entities in two groups, are excluded from the ranking and the counts. The 77 named provinces sum to 99.89 percent of the national total, so the remaining 0.11 percent has no usable province. Revenue is by registered address, not by where sales occur.
