In short

Thailand has 230,396 registered manufacturing companies as of 2 July 2026, about 11.6 percent of all classified firms. Yet manufacturing carries 32.8 percent of the country's reported revenue, roughly 25.2 trillion baht. That gap between a modest share of companies and a large share of revenue is what makes manufacturing the heavyweight of the Thai economy.

Why manufacturing punches above its weight

The reason is scale per firm. A factory ties up far more capital and books far more revenue than a small shop or a subcontractor, so a comparatively small number of manufacturers moves an outsized share of money. This is the backbone of Thailand's export economy, spanning autos, electronics, food processing and petrochemicals. When people describe Thailand as a regional production hub, this is the sector they mean, and the numbers back the description.

Definitions

TSIC section C
The manufacturing section of the Thailand Standard Industrial Classification, covering firms that physically make or process goods.
Revenue per firm
Average reported revenue divided across the companies in a sector, a rough gauge of how capital-heavy the sector is.

Assumptions

Methodology

Manufacturing is TSIC section C. Company count is the number of registered firms whose primary activity falls in that section, and revenue is the sum of their latest reported annual revenue, both from the DBD registry as of 2 July 2026. Share of national revenue divides section C revenue by total reported revenue across all companies. Net margin is aggregate section net profit over aggregate section revenue.
