How many sector leaders crack the national top 10?

Thailand's registry splits companies into 21 lettered industry sections, from agriculture to extraterritorial organizations, and each section has one company that reports more revenue than any other company inside it. Only 2 of those 21 sector leaders also show up on the national top 10 by revenue. That works out to a 9.52 percent overlap, as of 17 Jul 2026 (DBD, 2026). Hua Seng Heng Commoditas, a gold and commodities trading company, leads wholesale and retail trade and is also the single largest company in Thailand by revenue. PTT Public Company Limited leads manufacturing and ranks second nationally. The remaining 19 sector leaders, spanning banking, telecom, aviation, real estate and construction, do not come close to the national top 10 at all.

Why this matters

Leading an industry section and leading the country are two different achievements. A company can dominate real estate, telecom or aviation and still sit several tiers below Thailand's largest firms nationally. PTT and Hua Seng Heng Commoditas are the exception, not the rule. PTT sits inside the country's energy and petrochemical complex, and Hua Seng Heng trades gold and other commodities at a scale that outruns a national oil company. Everyone else, including Bangkok Bank, Advanced Info Service and Central Pattana, tops its own section but reports a small fraction of what sits at the very top of the national ranking. Bangkok Bank, the third largest sector leader, holds only 42.82 percent of the revenue posted by CP All, the smallest company on the national top 10. Corporate revenue in Thailand already concentrates inside a handful of large groups, and this comparison shows that concentration runs deeper than any single sector (OECD, 2025). A sector's biggest name rarely tells you where the country's biggest money actually sits.

Assumptions

Methodology

Sector leaders come from market_section_insight, which records the single highest revenue company inside each of the 21 lettered TSIC industry sections in the DBD registry, as of 17 Jul 2026. The national top 10 comes from market_trends_insight, ranked by total revenue among companies with a filed financial statement, computed 24 Jun 2026. A company counts as overlapping only when its name matches exactly between the two tables. Revenue figures come only from filed financial statements, so a company that has not filed recently will not appear in either ranking even if it operates at scale.
