Thai Industry Codes With All Four Company Size Bands (2026)
In short
Only 703 of 1,228 five-digit Thai industry codes contain micro, small, medium and large companies together, or 57.2 percent, as of 17 July 2026. The other 525 codes, 42.8 percent, are missing at least one rung of the size ladder. Another 120 codes hold nothing but micro firms. Wholesale and retail is the most complete sector at 73.0 percent of its codes.
How many industry codes hold every size of company?
Only 703 of Thailand's 1,228 five-digit industry codes contain micro, small, medium and large companies at the same time (DBD, 2026). That is 57.25 percent. The remaining 525 codes, 42.75 percent, lack at least one size band. Large companies are the scarcest rung. Just 737 codes have even one large firm, or 60.02 percent. Micro firms are almost everywhere, present in 1,217 codes. Small firms appear in 1,103 codes. Medium firms appear in 862. So the ladder does not break at the bottom. It breaks near the top.

Five-digit codes per section and how many hold all four size bands, as of 17 Jul 2026.
Where the ladder is missing rungs
The gaps are not random. Public administration has 13 codes and none holds all four bands. Households has 3 codes and extraterritorial bodies has 2, and neither group has a complete code. Accommodation and food service has 23 codes and only 6 are complete, or 26.1 percent. Human health has the same result, with 6 of 23 codes complete. Education manages 8 complete codes out of 27, or 29.6 percent. Wholesale and retail sits at the other extreme with 146 of 200, or 73.0 percent. Manufacturing is right behind at 307 of 421, or 72.9 percent. Big sectors have many codes, and many codes leave room for large firms to sit beside small ones. Narrow sectors often serve a local market where one size dominates.
Why this matters
Any strategy that assumes a full size ladder is wrong for 42.75 percent of industries. A supplier who plans to grow customers from micro to medium inside one code will find that 120 codes have no one above micro. A lender benchmarking a medium company against large peers has no large peers in 491 codes. A policy team designing a scale-up scheme should check the code first. The complete codes are where the economy lives. They hold 1,904,163 of the 1,986,709 companies with a size band, or 95.85 percent. The incomplete codes are numerous but thin. Together they hold under 5 percent of sized companies.
Definitions
- TSIC code
- The Thailand Standard Industrial Classification. A five-digit code names a narrow line of business, and a lettered section groups many codes.
- Size band
- The registry grouping of companies into micro, small, medium and large.
- Complete code
- A five-digit code with at least one company in each of the four size bands.
- Micro-only code
- A code where micro companies are present and no small, medium or large company is.
Assumptions
- Presence is a count of at least one company, so a code with a single large firm counts as complete.
- Size bands follow the registry classification and may differ from other official definitions.
- Five-digit codes have no English names in the registry, so individual industries cannot be named.
- Data rows were computed on 17 July 2026, later than the 7 July 2026 anchors used elsewhere. Company totals are unchanged at 1,986,709 sized companies.
Methodology
Counts come from the Department of Business Development registry, aggregated to 1,228 five-digit TSIC codes, with rows computed on 17 July 2026. A code counts as complete when it has at least one micro, one small, one medium and one large company. Size bands are the registry classification of 1,986,709 companies. Five-digit codes carry no English names in the registry, so results are reported by code counts and by lettered section. One company is counted once, in its own code. Presence means at least one company, not a meaningful number of companies.
How we verified this
- Complete codes 703 divided by 1,228 total codes recomputed as 57.25 percent.
- Incomplete codes recomputed as 1,228 minus 703, which equals 525, and 525 divided by 1,228 is 42.75 percent.
- Section code counts summed to 1,228 and section complete counts summed to 703, matching the national query.
- Codes with at least one large company, 737, divided by 1,228 recomputed as 60.02 percent, so 491 codes have no large firm.
- Micro-only codes, 120, divided by 1,228 recomputed as 9.77 percent.
- Companies in complete codes, 1,904,163, divided by 1,986,709 recomputed as 95.85 percent.
- Wholesale 146 divided by 200 recomputed as 73.0 percent, manufacturing 307 divided by 421 as 72.9 percent, and food service 6 divided by 23 as 26.1 percent.
