What a long tail means

A company base this skewed shapes everything from policy to sales strategy. Support programmes reach the most firms when they are built for micro and small owners, since those two bands are 97.4 percent of the field. Yet the 13,810 large companies, small in number, carry a disproportionate share of revenue, employment and tax. Anyone selling to Thai business has to decide early whether they are chasing the vast tail of small firms or the narrow head of large ones.

Assumptions

Methodology

Companies are grouped into micro, small, medium and large bands using the size classification carried in the registry, which reflects thresholds on revenue and employment. Counts are summed across all industry sections from the DBD registry as of 2 July 2026 and cover the 1,986,709 companies that carry a size band. Shares are computed against that classified total.
