How does Thailand's new company growth compare with the UK's

Thailand's new company registrations grew 5.72 percent in 2025, rising from 121,657 in 2024 to 128,617 (DBD, 2026). That is 6,960 more companies than the year before. The United Kingdom's Companies House recorded 815,277 incorporations in the financial year to March 2026, up 1.67 percent from 801,864 the year before (Companies House, 2026). Divide one growth rate by the other and Thailand's formation rate runs 3.42 times faster than Britain's. The gap between the two rates is 4.05 percentage points, and it is widening as UK identity verification rules and higher incorporation fees slow British formation.

Why the gap matters

A faster formation rate signals more than paperwork. Every new Thai company registered in 2025 represents a fresh bet on the domestic economy, whether that bet is a food stall becoming a juristic entity or a fintech startup raising its first round. Britain's slower pace tracks a specific policy shock. Companies House introduced mandatory identity verification for directors and persons with significant control in November 2025, then doubled its incorporation fee in February 2026, and formation cooled in response. Thailand carries no equivalent friction yet. A gap of this size, sustained for another year, would let Thailand's new company count close ground fast on markets many times its economic size. That trajectory deserves more attention than a single headline number gives it.

Definitions

New company registration
A juristic entity's first recorded registration in a country's official company registry within a given reporting year.
Incorporation

Financial year ending, FYE
The UK government's reporting period running from April 1 to March 31 of the following year, used by Companies House instead of the calendar year.
Year over year growth rate
The percentage change in a count between one reporting period and the immediately prior period of the same length.

Assumptions

Methodology

New company counts for Thailand come from the Department of Business Development registry, aggregated by the founding year recorded at incorporation, as of 17 July 2026. A company counts toward a given year if its registration date falls within that calendar year, regardless of whether it is currently active or dormant. UK figures come from Companies House official statistics on company incorporations, reported on the UK government's April to March financial year rather than the calendar year, so the two series compare growth rates over twelve month windows that do not start on the same date. Companies House totals are published estimates and may be revised in later statistical releases.

Frequently asked questions

How many new companies did Thailand register in 2025?

128,617, up from 121,657 in 2024, a growth rate of 5.72 percent (DBD, 2026).

What is the UK's company incorporation growth rate for comparison?

Companies House recorded 815,277 incorporations in the financial year to March 2026, up 1.67 percent from 801,864 the year before (Companies House, 2026).

Why is Thailand's new company growth so much faster than the UK's?

Part of the gap traces to policy. The UK added mandatory director identity verification in November 2025 and doubled its incorporation fee in February 2026, both of which slowed British registrations, while Thailand added no comparable friction in 2025.
