120 Thai Industry Codes Where Every Firm Is Micro (2026)
In short
120 of Thailand's 1,228 five digit TSIC industry codes have never produced a single small, medium or large company, as of 17 July 2026. That is 9.8 percent of every industry code in the registry. Together those 120 codes hold just 506 companies, 0.03 percent of the 1,986,709 Thai firms with a recorded size band. The biggest of them, TSIC 92009 in the arts and entertainment section, counts only 54 companies and one still active. Codes stuck at all micro also survive worse, 24.5 percent active against 50.0 percent nationally.
Which industry codes have never produced a bigger business?
One hundred and twenty of Thailand's 1,228 five digit TSIC industry codes carry zero small, medium or large companies (DBD, 2026). Every registered firm in those codes sits in the micro band and nothing has ever crossed the line. That works out to 9.8 percent of every industry code the registry uses, roughly one in ten. The list is wide in code count but thin in company count. Together the 120 codes hold just 506 companies. That is 0.03 percent of the 1,986,709 Thai firms with a recorded size band as of 17 July 2026. Seventeen of the 21 lettered industry sections contain at least one such code. Manufacturing alone accounts for 25 of the 120 codes, more than any other section. Its codes average only two or three firms each. No code on this list comes close to the scale of Thailand's biggest industry categories. The single largest, TSIC 92009 in the arts and entertainment section, holds only 54 companies. Thailand's biggest TSIC code overall, construction code 41002, holds 165,550. Only one of the 54 firms in TSIC 92009 is still active.

Why a stuck code is a warning sign, not a footnote
A code with zero grown firms is not automatically an unhealthy industry. Many of these 120 codes are simply thin categories that few businesses ever register under, and a thin category rarely produces a large company by chance alone. What stands out is the survival pattern layered on top. Companies inside these all micro codes have a combined survival rate of 24.5 percent, active firms over total registered. That sits well below the 50.0 percent survival rate across all sized companies in Thailand (DBD, 2026). A category that has never produced a medium or large firm also tends to keep fewer of its micro firms alive, roughly half the national rate. For someone choosing a TSIC code at registration, that combination is worth knowing before signing the form. For anyone tracking industry health, it flags where the ladder from micro to small simply is not being climbed, whether the work itself does not scale or the code sits in a corner of the registry nobody revisits. Under Thailand's own MSME definitions, a micro firm employs no more than nine people and a small firm falls between ten and ninety nine, with medium running up to one hundred and ninety nine (OSMEP, 2025). Crossing that line even once, anywhere in a code's history, is enough to keep a code off this list. These 120 never have.
Definitions
- TSIC code
- Thailand's 5 digit Standard Industrial Classification code, the most detailed industry label a registered company carries.
- Micro company
- The smallest official size band, defined by Thailand's MSME standard as a firm with no more than nine employees.
- Size band
- The micro, small, medium or large classification assigned to a company based on employment or revenue thresholds.
- Survival rate
- Active companies divided by total registered companies for a given code or group, expressed as a percentage.
- Lettered section
- The 21 broad ISIC industry categories, labeled A through U, each containing many 5 digit TSIC codes.
Assumptions
- A code counts as all micro only if it has at least one registered micro company and zero small, medium or large companies.
- Size band is drawn from the company's most recent classification in the registry and does not track size changes over a company's full history.
- 5 digit sub industry names are not available in this dataset, so codes are described by number and parent section rather than by name.
- Codes with very few companies can flip in or out of the all micro group easily as individual firms file new financial statements.
Methodology
Every 5 digit TSIC industry code in the DBD registry was checked against its count of small, medium and large registered companies, as of 17 July 2026. A code qualifies as all micro when it has at least one registered micro company and zero small, zero medium and zero large companies. Survival rate is active companies divided by total registered companies for that code or group. 5 digit sub industry names are not published in this dataset, so codes are identified by their TSIC number and parent lettered section only.
How we verified this
- 120 all micro codes divided by 1,228 total 5 digit TSIC codes equals 9.77 percent, rounded to 9.8 percent.
- 506 companies in the all micro group divided by 1,986,709 total sized companies equals 0.0255 percent, rounded to 0.03 percent.
- 124 active companies in the all micro group divided by 506 total companies in that group equals 24.51 percent, rounded to 24.5 percent.
- 993,373 active companies divided by 1,986,709 total sized companies equals 50.00 percent nationally, matching the registry wide size band total.
- Section counts for the 120 codes sum to 25+13+12+10+10+8+7+7+5+4+3+3+3+3+3+2+2 = 120, and their entity counts sum to 506, matching the group totals.
- 165,550 companies in the largest TSIC code, 41002, divided by 54 companies in the largest all micro code, 92009, is roughly 3,066 times larger.
