Thailand's Median Industry by Revenue Per Company (2026)
In short
Accommodation and food service is Thailand's median industry section for revenue per company, averaging 11.26 million baht per firm as of 17 July 2026. Ranked across all 21 sections, it sits at position 11, with transportation and storage just above it and administrative and support services just below. Manufacturing tops the list at 109.08 million baht per company, almost ten times the median figure. Public administration, despite counting only 38 companies, actually lands at rank 17, six places below the median rather than at it.
Which industry section is the median for revenue per company?
Rank all 21 of Thailand's industry sections by revenue per registered company and one lands exactly in the middle. Accommodation and food service holds position 11, with ten sections earning more per company and ten earning less (DBD, 2026). Its companies generate an average of 11.26 million baht in revenue each. Just above it, transportation and storage companies average 25.26 million baht, more than double the median figure. Just below it, administrative and support service companies average 11.00 million baht, a gap of only about two percent. The median sits at the edge of a cliff rather than in a gentle middle ground, since the ten sections above it jump straight to 25 million baht and higher.

Average revenue per registered company and company count by section, as of 17 Jul 2026.
Why the median sector matters more than the extremes
The median section rarely gets attention next to the biggest and smallest numbers, but it tells its own story. Accommodation and food service spans everything from large hotel groups to single-location restaurants, which is exactly the kind of mixed sector that lands in the middle of a national ranking. Thailand's National Economic and Social Development Council reported the sector expanding 2.5 percent in 2025, with total tourism receipts reaching 2.647 trillion baht (NESDC, 2026). That growth sits on top of a sector whose average revenue per company already tracks close to the whole economy's midpoint, neither dominated by a handful of giants like manufacturing nor thinned out by hundreds of thousands of small traders like wholesale and retail. For anyone sizing up a single company's revenue against its peers, this median figure is a genuinely representative yardstick, and it is a different sector than the one most people would guess if asked to name Thailand's typical industry.
Definitions
- Revenue per company
- A section's total reported revenue divided by its number of registered companies. This is an average across the section, not a figure for any single firm.
- Industry section
- One of the 21 lettered top-level categories in the TSIC classification, Thailand's adaptation of the international ISIC industry code system.
- Median
- The middle value in a ranked list. With 21 sections, the median is the 11th section once all are sorted from highest to lowest.
- Entity count
- The number of registered companies counted within a section for this calculation.
Assumptions
- Only companies with a classified TSIC industry section and a filed financial statement contribute to a section's revenue and entity count.
- Average revenue per company is a section-wide mean, so a handful of very large filers can pull a section's figure upward.
- Sections with a small entity count, such as households with 32 companies and extraterritorial organizations with 4, are the most exposed to that effect and should be read as indicative rather than precise.
Methodology
Revenue per company is computed as each industry section's aggregate reported revenue divided by its entity count, using Department of Business Development registry data as of 17 July 2026. A company counts toward a section only if it carries a classified TSIC industry section. Sections with very few companies, such as households and extraterritorial organizations, can be swung by a single large filer, so their averages should be read with that limitation in mind. All 21 sections are ranked once by this average, and the median is the section occupying the exact middle position of that ranking.
How we verified this
- Summed entity_count across all 21 market_section_insight rows: 1,986,489, matching the DBD count of companies with a classified industry section.
- Recomputed accommodation and food service's average revenue per company directly: 941,432,398,501.72 baht divided by 83,598 companies equals 11,261,422.50 baht, matching the section table.
- Counted sections with a higher average revenue per company than accommodation and food service: 10, namely manufacturing, electricity and gas, financial and insurance, mining, wholesale and retail, water and waste, human health, agriculture, information and communication, and transportation and storage. Counted sections with a lower average: 10. With accommodation and food service itself, 10 plus 1 plus 10 equals 21, confirming it holds the exact middle rank.
- Recomputed the ratio of manufacturing's average revenue per company to the median figure: 109,077,343.59 divided by 11,261,422.50 equals 9.69, so the top section earns about 9.7 times the median.
- Checked public administration separately: its average of 7,048,584.73 baht is exceeded by 16 of the other 20 sections, placing it 17th of 21, six ranks below the median rather than at it.
- Summed total_revenue across all 21 sections: approximately 80.08 trillion baht, within 0.1 percent of the national total revenue anchor of roughly 80.15 trillion baht.
