Updated 23 September 2026Data as of 17 July 2026Verified

In short

58,492 active companies carry TSIC code 41002, an unnamed construction code, more than any other five-digit industry code in Thailand as of 17 July 2026. Real estate code 68102 ranks second with 28,980 active companies, then accommodation and food service code 56101 with 27,616. Ranking by active companies rather than total registrations pulls code 70209, a professional and technical services code, into fifth place ahead of a wholesale and retail code that carries more registrations but fewer surviving firms. Which industry code has the most active companies?

Rank Thailand's five-digit TSIC codes by active company count instead of raw registrations and the top of the leaderboard barely moves, then the ranking shifts near the bottom. TSIC code 41002 still leads with 58,492 active companies, the most of any code in the country (DBD, 2026). Real estate code 68102 holds second place with 28,980 active companies, and accommodation and food service code 56101 holds third with 27,616. Construction code 41001 keeps fourth place with 20,403 active companies. Fifth place is where the ranking actually changes. Code 70209, sitting in the professional, scientific and technical section, climbs into fifth with 19,424 active companies. It carries only 34,086 total registrations, sixth most in the country. The code it displaces, wholesale and retail code 46599, has more total registrations at 36,728, good for fifth place on raw headcount. Only 16,647 of those companies remain active, and that drops it to seventh place once the ranking counts survivors instead of every company ever filed.

Why the active count matters more than raw registrations

A registration count answers one question. How many companies has the Department of Business Development ever recorded under this code. An active count answers a different, more useful one. How many are still around to hire staff, pay tax and sign contracts today. The gap between the two questions is not small. Construction code 41002 has issued 165,550 registrations, yet only 35.33 percent remain active, the lowest survival rate of any code in the active top five. Code 70209 sits at the other end, with 56.99 percent of its 34,086 registrations still active, and that higher survival rate is exactly why it outranks the larger but less durable code 46599 once dormant firms drop out of the count. Stack the five active leaders together and they hold 15.59 percent of every active company in Thailand. Their combined survival rate of 44.47 percent still trails the national active share of 50.0 percent (DBD, 2026). Size at the top of a registry and durability across that same registry are two separate facts. A market sizing exercise, a lending model or a franchise rollout plan that reads only the registration count risks counting companies that closed years ago. International reviewers of Thailand's corporate sector draw the same distinction when they look past headline registration figures toward what is actually still operating (OECD, 2025).

Definitions

TSIC
Thailand Standard Industrial Classification, a five-digit code system that assigns every registered company one primary industry activity, built on the international ISIC standard.
5-digit code
The most detailed level of TSIC classification. The registry publishes a name for the 21 lettered sections above it but not for individual five-digit codes.
Active company
A company whose current DBD registration status is active, as opposed to a status such as dormant, dissolved or deregistered.
Registered company
The total number of companies ever assigned a given code, including both currently active and inactive companies. Also called entity count.
Survival rate
The share of companies registered under a code that remain active today, calculated as active companies divided by registered companies.
Section
One of 21 broad industry letters, such as F for construction or L for real estate, that groups related five-digit TSIC codes.

Assumptions

Methodology

Active, inactive and registered company counts are drawn directly from the Department of Business Development's five-digit TSIC aggregate table, current as of 17 July 2026. Active means the company carries an active registration status with DBD, as opposed to dormant, dissolved or otherwise closed. Registered, or entity count, includes every company ever assigned that code regardless of current status, since the code assignment does not change when a company goes inactive. The five-digit description field is blank in this dataset, so codes are identified by number and by the parent industry section letter only. Ranks by active count and by registered count were computed independently from the same raw counts, and every share and rate in this piece was recalculated from those totals rather than read from a pre built leaderboard.

Frequently asked questions

Which 5-digit TSIC code has the most active companies in Thailand?

Code 41002, an unnamed construction code, has 58,492 active companies as of 17 July 2026, more than any other five-digit code in the country.

Does ranking by active companies produce the same top five as ranking by total registrations?

Not quite. Four of the five spots match, but code 70209 in professional, scientific and technical services enters fifth place on active count even though it ranks only sixth on total registrations. It displaces wholesale and retail code 46599, which ranks fifth on registrations but falls to seventh once inactive companies are excluded.

What share of Thailand's active companies sit in the top five 5-digit codes?

15.59 percent. The same five codes hold a larger 17.54 percent of the 1,986,709 classified companies, so they are slightly less concentrated among active firms than among raw registrations, since their combined survival rate of 44.47 percent trails the national average.
