Revenue rank among 966 named codes in 2019 and 2025, revenue in billion baht, as of 7 Jul 2026. The last row sits outside the top six fallers and is shown for scale.
Reading the rank changes with care
A rank move is relative, so it depends on the neighbours as much as on the code itself. Small codes also move fast, because a few billion baht can jump a hundred places in the crowded middle of the table. Retail via food stalls and markets shows the extreme, climbing 264 places on revenue that grew from 0.03 billion to 2.5 billion baht. That is why the faller list is limited to codes that began in the top 300. The hypermarket story is a good example of a real shift. Revenue fell from 540.3 billion baht to 142.4 billion baht, a retained share of 26.4 percent. Part of that may be reclassification of large retailers into other codes, and the registry cannot tell us which. The telecom codes deserve the same caution. Wireless revenue fell to 1.0 billion baht from 76.4 billion, which may reflect a change in how filers classify themselves more than the disappearance of mobile service.
Why this matters
A sector table sorted by size hides the churn underneath it. Thailand's economy did not just grow over these six years. Its middle tier reshuffled. Platform and trade-support codes climbed fast, with e-marketplace revenue up 9.24 times and lottery operation revenue up 24.14 times. Legacy retail and telecom codes lost ground in the ranking. Anyone sizing a market should check the code's 2019 rank before trusting its 2025 size, because the code may have been a different kind of industry then. Anyone selling into a climbing code is joining a crowd that is still forming.
Definitions
- TSIC code
- The Thai Standard Industrial Classification code. Five digits identify a specific activity.
- Revenue rank
- Position of a code when all named codes are sorted by total reported revenue, with 1 the largest.
- Partial filing
- A flag for codes where too few companies have filed for the year to give a reliable total.
Assumptions
- Only companies that filed a statement contribute revenue.
- Reclassification of companies between codes can create rank moves that are not real growth or decline.
- Rank changes among small codes are volatile, so fallers are limited to codes that began in the top 300.
Methodology
Source: Department of Business Development registry, aggregated by five-digit TSIC code in the Max Data trend explorer with computed_at 7 July 2026. Revenue for 2019, Buddhist year 2562, and for 2025, Buddhist year 2568 and the anchor year, was ranked from largest to smallest. Only codes with positive revenue in both years and no partial-filing flag were kept, which leaves 966 of 1,008 codes. Ties share a rank. Revenue is summed from filed statements, so codes where filers changed classification can move for reasons other than trading.
How we verified this
- Trend explorer holds 1,008 codes. 5 are flagged partial filing and 37 lack 2019 or 2025 revenue, leaving 1,008 - 5 - 37 = 966 ranked codes.
- Lottery: rank 774 - 383 = 391 places. Revenue 16,788,482,521.05 / 695,336,129.87 = 24.14 times.
- Wireless telecom: rank 777 - 126 = 651 places lost. Revenue 1,012,781,134.02 / 76,409,220,006.60 = 1.3 percent.
- e-Marketplace: 115,972,359,673.90 / 12,550,618,499.80 = 9.24 times and 385 - 109 = 276 places.
- Hypermarkets: 142,440,645,151.86 / 540,265,167,620.66 = 26.4 percent retained and 15 to 93 is 78 places lost.
- Retail via stalls and markets of food: 2,517,111,617.19 / 32,706,827.73 = 76.96 times and 936 - 672 = 264 places. It is the fifth biggest climber.
- Sixth biggest faller is retail by direct sales: 405 - 289 = 116 places, ahead of hypermarkets at 78.
