Why this map matters
A champions table hides a lopsided contest. Wholesale and retail holds 715,976 registered firms, yet one company sits at its revenue peak. Mining crowns a leader from a pool of just 8,231 firms. That base is about one eighty-seventh the size of the retail field. The size of the field and the identity of its leader move on separate tracks. Services generate about 56 percent of Thai output (NESDC, 2025), which helps explain why trade and property carry the heaviest company counts. Industry adds close to 35 percent, and much of that value flows through a small number of large filers. Several champions also stretch across borders that a single sector label cannot hold. PTT leads manufacturing here, though its core business is energy. Minor International runs restaurants and hotels at once. Read the map with care: each name is the revenue peak of its section, not the full portrait of a conglomerate. The registry ranks the filing entity, so a group that reports through many subsidiaries can look smaller than its brand suggests.
Definitions
- TSIC section
- A top level grouping in the Thailand Standard Industrial Classification, the coding scheme that sorts each registered company into an industry such as manufacturing or real estate.
- Revenue leader
- The single registered company reporting the highest revenue within a given industry section, based on filed financial statements.
- Registered juristic person
- A company or partnership registered with the Department of Business Development, the legal unit counted in each sector total.
- Filing entity
- The individual legal company that files its own accounts. A corporate group made of several filing entities is ranked as its separate parts, not as one combined brand.
Assumptions
- Revenue leadership is measured from the most recent financial statements on file, so a company that has not yet filed does not appear as a leader.
- Each company is placed in one primary industry section, so a diversified firm counts toward a single sector.
- Rankings are by the filing entity, so a group that reports through many subsidiaries may look smaller than its overall brand.
- Sector company counts include all registered firms in the section, whether or not they filed a statement this cycle.
Methodology
Each sector's revenue leader is the single registered company reporting the highest revenue within that TSIC section in the Department of Business Development registry as of 2 July 2026. Sector company counts are the total registered juristic persons classified to each section. Companies are named only. No individual is identified. Rankings reflect the filing entity, so subsidiaries of a group are counted and ranked separately from their parent.
How we verified this
- Summed the ten sector company counts to 1,484,164 firms and used that base for every share stated.
- Recomputed wholesale and retail as 715,976 of 1,484,164 firms, which is 48.2 percent, the value shown in keyStats.
- Confirmed mining is the smallest mapped sector at 8,231 firms and wholesale and retail the largest at 715,976, a spread of 87 times.
- Confirmed each table row names a company only and that no natural person appears anywhere on the page.
- Checked each sector company count against the industry section figures used across the rest of the site.
