How Much Revenue Thailand's 21 Sector Leaders Control in 2026
In short
The single largest company in each of Thailand's 21 industry sections together earned 10.29 percent of all corporate revenue as of 17 Jul 2026. That is 8.24 trillion baht of the nation's 80.15 trillion baht total. One firm drives most of that figure. Hua Seng Heng Commoditas, the gold trading company that leads wholesale and retail, reports 6.93 percent of national revenue by itself, which is two thirds of the combined 21 champion total. Take that single company out and the other 20 sector leaders together hold just 3.35 percent of the economy.
How much of Thailand's revenue comes from just the top firm in each sector?
Pick the single largest company in each of Thailand's 21 industry sections and add up their revenue. The total comes to 8.24 trillion baht, 10.29 percent of the 80.15 trillion baht that Thai companies reported in aggregate as of 17 Jul 2026 (DBD, 2026). Twenty one giants, one drawn from every lettered industry section, account for roughly a tenth of the entire corporate economy on their own. The concentration is lopsided even inside that select group of 21. Hua Seng Heng Commoditas, a gold trading company that leads the wholesale and retail section, reports 5.56 trillion baht by itself, equal to 6.93 percent of national revenue. That single firm makes up 67.4 percent of the combined total of all 21 champions. Remove it and the other 20 sector leaders together hold just 3.35 percent of the country's revenue.

Why this matters
A tenth of Thailand's entire corporate revenue running through just 21 companies is a striking number on its own. What it hides is more telling. A single gold trading company generates more revenue than the top firm in twenty other sections combined. Wholesale and retail trade counts more than 715,000 registered companies, the largest section by count in the whole registry, yet one filer inside it towers over the rest of the national economy. Company counts can make a sector look crowded and competitive while revenue sits almost entirely with one player. Anyone reading sector averages needs the shape of the distribution behind them, not just the mean, because the mean can be almost meaningless when one company holds this much of the total.
Definitions
- Industry section
- One of 21 top level categories, labeled A through U, that the Thailand Standard Industrial Classification assigns to every registered company.
- Sector champion
- The single company with the highest reported revenue within an industry section, as recorded in the DBD registry.
- Aggregate revenue
- The sum of reported revenue across every company in a group that filed a financial statement, not an average of individual company revenue.
- TSIC
- The Thailand Standard Industrial Classification, the coding system the DBD uses to sort every registered company into a section and a finer industry code.
Assumptions
- Only companies that filed a financial statement contribute to any revenue total, so unregistered or non filing companies are excluded from both the numerator and the denominator.
- The top company in each section is whichever single filer reported the highest revenue figure, which for a trading or bullion firm can reflect gross transaction value rather than a value added measure of business activity.
- Sections with very few filers, including public administration, households as employers and extraterritorial organizations, have a top company that is not a meaningful market leader given how few companies sit in that section.
Methodology
For each of Thailand's 21 DBD industry sections we took the single company with the highest reported revenue from market_section_insight and summed those 21 figures. We divided that sum by the national total revenue recorded in market_national_insight. Both tables are drawn from the Department of Business Development registry as of 17 July 2026 and include only companies that filed a financial statement. The wholesale and retail figure reflects one bullion trader's reported revenue, which can include gross transaction value rather than a value added measure of business activity, so treat that line as an outlier rather than a typical retailer.
How we verified this
- Summed top_company_revenue across all 21 rows of market_section_insight: 31,608,151,861 plus 85,469,910,000 plus 1,562,341,446,477 plus 37,469,188,703 plus 5,552,966,585.23 plus 50,368,666,000 plus 5,556,701,724,240.86 plus 193,913,474,014 plus 18,875,301,683 plus 198,389,337,108 plus 202,549,954,000 plus 35,443,554,968 plus 51,703,994,260 plus 161,821,786,000 plus 216,110,390.78 plus 2,041,013,477.20 plus 30,723,557,528 plus 16,190,074,494.06 plus 3,553,401,621.99 plus 1,753,924.70 plus 16,339,895.20 equals 8,244,951,707,232.02 baht.
- Divided 8,244,951,707,232.02 by the national total_revenue of 80,146,498,562,463.62 from market_national_insight to get 10.2874 percent, reported as 10.29 percent.
- Divided the single largest champion's revenue of 5,556,701,724,240.86 by the same national total to get 6.9332 percent, reported as 6.93 percent.
- Divided 5,556,701,724,240.86 by the 21 champion sum of 8,244,951,707,232.02 to get 67.395 percent, reported as 67.4 percent, confirming that one firm is more than two thirds of the combined 21 champion total.
- Subtracted the largest champion's revenue from the 21 champion sum, 8,244,951,707,232.02 minus 5,556,701,724,240.86 equals 2,688,249,982,991.16, then divided by national total revenue to get 3.354 percent, reported as 3.35 percent for the remaining 20 champions.
