Thailand's Top 5 Provinces Hold 80% of Company Revenue, 2026

Updated 14 July 2026Data as of 7 July 2026Verified

In short

Thailand's top five provinces by revenue, Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Chon Buri, Rayong and Pathum Thani, generate 80.5 percent of the country's 80.15 trillion baht in reported company revenue as of 7 Jul 2026. Ranked instead by company count, a different top five holds only 61.4 percent of registered companies. Bangkok alone produces 63.1 percent of national revenue. Rayong ranks tenth by company count but fourth by revenue, driven by heavy industry. Money concentrates in Thailand's provinces far more tightly than company headcount does.

What share of Thailand's company revenue sits in five provinces?

Rank Thailand's provinces by reported company revenue and the answer is stark. Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Chon Buri, Rayong and Pathum Thani together hold 80.5 percent of the country's 80.15 trillion baht in total reported revenue, as of 7 Jul 2026, according to the DBD registry (DBD, 2026). Those same five provinces hold only 57.9 percent of the country's registered companies. Rank the provinces instead by how many companies they host and a different top five appears: Bangkok, Chon Buri, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Pathum Thani, covering 61.4 percent of registered companies but only 78.5 percent of revenue. Either way, money clusters harder than headcount. Bangkok alone generates 50.55 trillion baht, 63.1 percent of national revenue and 78.4 percent of the top five revenue total by itself.

The top five provinces by company count are not the top five by revenue.

Rayong breaks into the money list, not the headcount list

Rayong ranks only tenth in Thailand for sheer number of registered companies, with 33,083 against Chiang Mai's 65,164. Yet Rayong outproduces Chiang Mai in revenue by 6.06 times, reporting 3.20 trillion baht against Chiang Mai's 528.6 billion baht. Rayong's base of heavy petrochemical and industrial firms means fewer companies that are each far larger. Swap Nonthaburi for Rayong in a top five list and the revenue share climbs from 78.5 percent to 80.5 percent, while the company share falls from 61.4 percent to 57.9 percent. A handful of industrial giants can outweigh tens of thousands of small registered firms.

Why this matters

Thailand's national accounts show a similarly lopsided geography. NESDC's gross regional product data put the Bangkok metropolitan region at roughly half of national GDP in the most recent fiscal year measured (NESDC, 2024). The DBD company registry shows an even sharper tilt when measured by reported revenue: the top five provinces by revenue hold 80.5 percent of the total, well above their 57.9 percent share of company count. That gap has practical consequences. A revenue base concentrated this tightly means a downturn in one province or one industrial cluster, such as Rayong's petrochemical exports, can move the national revenue figure more than its share of companies would suggest. Counting registered companies by province alone understates just how concentrated Thailand's corporate revenue already is.

Definitions

Reported revenue
Aggregate revenue taken from the latest filed financial statement of each registered company, summed by province.
Registered company
A juristic person registered with the DBD and carrying a size band classification, whether currently active or dormant.
Revenue concentration
The share of total revenue held by a subset of provinces, here the five highest ranked by revenue.
Top five by revenue vs top five by company count
Two separate rankings of the same set of provinces, one sorted by aggregate revenue and one by number of registered companies. The two rankings do not contain the same five provinces.

Assumptions

Methodology

Company counts and revenue are drawn from the Department of Business Development's registered juristic person database, aggregated by province in market_province_insight and cross checked against the national totals in market_national_insight, both as of 7 Jul 2026. Reported revenue is the sum of the latest filed financial statement revenue figure for each company with a filing on record, attributed to the province of its registered address. Registered companies covers all juristic persons carrying a size band classification, whether active or dormant. The top five by revenue and the top five by company count are two independently sorted rankings of the same 77 provinces plus Bangkok, and they are not the same five provinces. Shares are computed against the whole economy anchors of 1,989,709 registered companies and 80,148,033,688,000 baht in total reported revenue.

Frequently asked questions

How much of Thailand's company revenue does Bangkok alone generate?

Bangkok generates 50.55 trillion baht, which is 63.1 percent of the country's total reported company revenue, already more than half of the national total by itself.

Which province is in the top five by revenue but not the top five by company count?

Rayong. It ranks fourth by revenue with 3.20 trillion baht but only tenth by company count with 33,083 registered companies. Nonthaburi takes its place in the company count top five.

Is company revenue concentration the same as GDP concentration in Thailand?

The two point the same direction but are not identical measures. NESDC's gross regional product data puts the Bangkok metropolitan region at roughly half of national GDP, while the DBD company registry puts the top five provinces at 80.5 percent of reported company revenue.
