Thai Sector Leaders Out-Earning Whole Provinces by Revenue 2026
In short
Hua Seng Heng Commodities booked 5.56 trillion baht in revenue, more than 76 of Thailand's 77 provinces, as of 17 July 2026. Only Bangkok is bigger. PTT outsold 71 provinces. Bangkok Bank outsold 54. In total, 15 of 21 industry sections have a leader that beats at least one province. The economy is lumpy, and a single balance sheet can outweigh a whole regional economy.
Which sector leaders outsell a whole province?
Hua Seng Heng Commodities, the largest company in wholesale and retail trade, reported 5.56 trillion baht of revenue (DBD, 2026). That is more than every province except Bangkok. Top company revenue in each industry section against province totals, as of 17 Jul 2026. Revenue in billion baht.
Scale without a map
Set the leaders against the smallest provinces and the gap turns absurd. Mae Hong Son, the smallest, registers 6.06 billion baht. Bangkok Bank is 33.4 times that. The 38 smallest provinces together reach 1.85 trillion baht. PTT alone equals 84.2 percent of that sum. Hua Seng Heng alone is 3.0 times it. Earlier province pages compare clusters of places. This lens sets one firm against one place, and the firm often wins.
Why this matters
A province total is a headcount of registered addresses, not a measure of where people work or where value is made. A national group books its revenue where it is registered, usually Bangkok or an industrial eastern province. So a provincial league table partly reflects where head offices sit. Policy makers who read revenue by province as regional strength should see how few firms can move it. One large group can outweigh dozens of provinces, and the trading sector shows it most. Hua Seng Heng is 14.3 percent of all wholesale and retail revenue and 6.9 percent of national reported revenue. Gross trading revenue is also a blunt size measure, since a commodity trader books large sales on thin margins. Read these comparisons as a map of concentration, not a ranking of economic contribution.
Definitions
- Sector leader
- The company with the highest filed revenue within a TSIC industry section.
- Province total
- Sum of filed revenue of all companies registered in a province.
- Provinces outsold
- The number of provinces whose total revenue is below the leader's revenue.
- TSIC section
- A lettered top-level category of the Thai Standard Industrial Classification, such as manufacturing or construction.
- Aggregate
- A total or ratio computed across many companies rather than for one firm.
Assumptions
- Revenue is the latest filed figure per company and years may differ between firms.
- Province is the registered address, not where sales or work happen.
- Revenue is not consolidated across group companies, so true group size may be larger.
- Gross revenue favours trading and energy firms with low margins, so it is not a profit measure.
- A group of 556 companies with no province is excluded from province totals.
Methodology
Leader revenue is the top_company_revenue for each TSIC industry section, and province revenue is total reported revenue of companies registered in each province, both from the Department of Business Development registry aggregates, computed 17 July 2026 and referred to as of 17 July 2026. Provinces outsold counts the provinces whose total revenue is lower than the leader's revenue, across 77 provinces including Bangkok. A small group of 556 companies with no province and sales of 24.4 billion baht is excluded. Revenue is as filed and unaudited by this site, and group structures are not consolidated.
How we verified this
- Hua Seng Heng revenue 5,556,701,724,240.86 baht is above Samut Prakan at 4,821,545,715,425.37 baht and below Bangkok at 50,545,042,342,775.37 baht, so it outsells 76 of 77 provinces. Ratio to Samut Prakan recomputed as 1.15.
- PTT revenue 1,562,341,446,477 baht is above Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya at 1,493,950,989,642 baht and below Nonthaburi at 1,619,060,525,962 baht, giving 71 provinces outsold and 6 larger.
- Bangkok Bank at 202,549,954,000 baht is above Chanthaburi at 199,232,765,770 baht and below Nakhon Sawan at 211,092,204,295 baht, giving 54 provinces outsold.
- Mae Hong Son at 6,058,057,941 baht gives 202,549,954,000 divided by 6,058,057,941 equal to 33.4 times.
- The 38 smallest provinces sum to 1.8547 trillion baht. PTT 1.5623 trillion divided by 1.8547 trillion is 84.2 percent. Hua Seng Heng 5.5567 trillion divided by 1.8547 trillion is 3.0 times.
- Hua Seng Heng 5.5567 trillion divided by wholesale and retail sector revenue 38.7393 trillion is 14.3 percent. Divided by national revenue 80.146 trillion it is 6.9 percent.
- The 77 province totals sum to 80.057 trillion baht, which is 99.9 percent of the 80.146 trillion national total, with the remainder in companies that have no province.
- Counted 15 of 21 sections with a leader above the smallest province. Leaders in education, water and waste, other services, public administration, households and extraterritorial sections fall below 6.06 billion baht.
- LotteryPlus revenue 16.19 billion baht is above Mae Hong Son at 6.06 billion and below Bueng Kan at 17.66 billion, so it outsells 1 province. Fifteen section leaders sit above 6.06 billion baht, and the table now lists all 15.
