Micro company count, share of coded micro firms and survival rate by 5-digit TSIC code, as of 17 Jul 2026.
Why this matters
Micro companies are the registry's default setting. They make up 75.03 percent of all 1,989,709 registered companies, and this ranking shows where they pile up. Construction codes 41002 and 41001 together hold 165,894 micro firms, or 11.11 percent of the coded total. Property codes 68102, 68101 and 68103 add more. These are low-capital, easy-to-register activities, so they attract many tiny entities. Survival tells the other half of the story. Code 41002 has a survival rate of just 35.33 percent, which means 107,058 of its 165,550 registered entities are no longer active. Code 46109 is similar at 32.11 percent. A lender, supplier or marketer who targets the biggest code by headcount is mostly targeting registrations that have gone quiet. Count by active firms before you size a market.
Definitions
- TSIC
- Thailand Standard Industrial Classification, the national scheme that assigns each company a code for its main activity. The 5-digit level is the most detailed.
- Micro company
- A company in the smallest size band recorded in the DBD registry.
- Survival rate
- Active entities divided by all registered entities in a code. A low rate means many registrations are no longer operating.
- Aggregate
- A figure computed across all companies in a group, such as a code, rather than for one company.
Assumptions
- Size bands are those recorded in the registry and may lag a company's true scale.
- Registered does not mean trading, so a high micro count can include dormant entities.
- The 1,492,884 denominator covers micro companies with a 5-digit code only.
- The database refreshed on 17 July 2026, so figures differ slightly from earlier 7 July national constants.
Methodology
Counts come from the Department of Business Development registry, aggregated by 5-digit TSIC code as of 17 July 2026. A company is micro under the size band recorded in the registry. Shares use the 1,492,884 micro companies that carry a 5-digit code as the denominator, which is slightly below the 1,492,979 micro companies in the full size-band count because a small number have no code. Survival rate is active entities divided by all registered entities in the code. The registry does not publish names for 5-digit codes, so codes are shown by number and section.
How we verified this
- Top code share recomputed: 135,615 divided by 1,492,884 coded micro companies equals 9.08 percent.
- Top five sum recomputed: 135,615 plus 53,891 plus 37,861 plus 30,279 plus 28,238 equals 285,884, which is 19.15 percent of 1,492,884.
- Top ten sum recomputed as 398,909, which is 26.72 percent of 1,492,884.
- Leader versus runner-up recomputed: 135,615 divided by 53,891 equals 2.52, shown as 2.5 times.
- Construction pair recomputed: 135,615 plus 30,279 equals 165,894, which is 11.11 percent of 1,492,884.
- Survival for code 41002 recomputed: 58,492 active divided by 165,550 entities equals 35.33 percent, and 165,550 minus 58,492 equals 107,058 inactive.
- Micro share of all registered companies recomputed: 1,492,979 divided by 1,989,709 equals 75.03 percent. Sum of micro counts across all 1,228 codes was queried and equals 1,492,884.
- Table rows were re-sorted by micro count and the descending order matches the chart.
