Why the gap is bigger than the headcount
A province's revenue is not a function of how many companies it has. It depends on which ones. Revenue sums only the companies that filed a financial statement, so a few large filers can lift a small province. The registry does not say which industries drive each province in this table, so the cause is open. The pattern is still plain. Chanthaburi's share of national revenue is 0.25 percent, while its share of companies is 0.37 percent. Trat's revenue share is 0.03 percent against a company share of 0.17 percent. Both provinces under-index on revenue, and Trat does so far more.
Why this matters
Counting companies tells you how many doors there are. Revenue tells you how much trade goes through them. A lender, a supplier or a franchise scout who treats Trat and Chanthaburi as one eastern pair would misjudge both. Trat is a province of many small registrations. Chanthaburi is a province where the typical registered company books more than three times the revenue. Any plan for the east coast should split them.
Definitions
- Registered company
- A juristic person listed in the DBD registry with a registered province.
- Revenue per company
- Total reported revenue of a province divided by all its registered companies, including those with no filed statement.
- Aggregate
- A sum across all companies in a group, rather than a single company figure.
Assumptions
- Revenue covers only companies that filed a financial statement, so unfiled companies count in the denominator but add nothing to revenue.
- Companies are assigned to their registered province, which may differ from where they trade.
- Revenue is concentrated in a few filers in most provinces, so averages hide a wide spread.
Methodology
Company counts and revenue come from the Department of Business Development registry of Thai juristic persons, aggregated by registered province and computed on 17 July 2026. Revenue is the sum of total revenue reported on filed financial statements, so companies without a filing add to the count but not to revenue. Revenue per company divides province revenue by all registered companies in that province, which makes it a conservative figure. The national average of 40.31 million baht uses the same basis, 80.08 trillion baht across 1,986,709 companies with a province record.
