In short

Western Thailand's five provinces hold 48,086 registered companies as of 17 July 2026. Together they report 875.48 billion baht of revenue, which is 1.09 percent of the national total. The region has 2.42 percent of the nation's companies, so each firm books less than half the national average. Ratchaburi alone produces 42.7 percent of the regional revenue. Prachuap Khiri Khan has the most companies but the lowest revenue per company.

How big is the western Thai economy?

Small, and lopsided. Kanchanaburi, Tak, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan hold 48,086 registered companies (DBD, 2026). That is 2.42 percent of the 1,989,709 companies in the national register. Their combined revenue is 875.48 billion baht. That is only 1.09 percent of the 80.15 trillion baht reported nationwide. The gap between those two shares tells the story. The west has plenty of firms and few big ones. The average western company books 18.21 million baht, against 40.28 million baht for the country as a whole, a ratio of 0.45.

Ratchaburi is the engine, Prachuap is the crowd

Ratchaburi holds 24.8 percent of the western companies. It books 42.7 percent of the regional revenue. Its 31.30 million baht per company is the only figure in the region that comes close to the national average, at 0.78 of it. Tak follows at 20.74 million baht, then Kanchanaburi at 16.10 million and Phetchaburi at 13.63 million. Prachuap Khiri Khan is the opposite case. It has 13,177 companies, 27.4 percent of the region. Yet its revenue per company is 9.09 million baht, about a quarter of the national figure. The registry cannot say why, but a long coastline of many small firms would produce exactly this pattern.

Why this matters

Western Thailand sits between Bangkok and the Andaman coast, and it is easy to treat it as a corridor rather than a market. The numbers disagree for Ratchaburi and agree for the other four. A business planner who averages the five provinces will be wrong about all of them. Ratchaburi behaves like a mid-sized industrial economy. Prachuap Khiri Khan behaves like a dense network of micro firms. Anyone selling to the west, lending to it or opening a branch there should size each province on its own, and should read company counts and revenue side by side. Count alone would rank Prachuap first. Revenue puts it last in the region.

Definitions

Revenue per company
Total reported revenue of a province divided by its number of registered companies.
Index vs national
A province's revenue per company divided by the national revenue per company. A value of 0.50 means half the national average.
Registered company
A juristic person listed in the DBD registry, whether or not it filed a financial statement.
Aggregate
A total across all companies in a group, not an average of individual firm results.

Assumptions

Methodology

Company counts and total reported revenue per province come from the Department of Business Development registry, aggregated by registered province, as of 17 July 2026. Revenue covers only companies that filed a financial statement, while company counts include every registered entity, so revenue per company is a conservative figure. National figures come from the same registry on the same date. Western Thailand here means the five provinces of the official western region. Shares and ratios were recomputed from the raw values and rounded to two decimals.
