Why this matters
Neighbours get compared by headline size, and the headline here is modest. Neither province holds even half of one percent of the country's revenue. The revenue story is the sharper one. Buri Ram's average company reports 17.91 million baht, against 14.59 million baht in Surin. That is a 1.23 times edge per company, which explains most of why the revenue gap is wider than the count gap. For anyone sizing a market in Lower Isan, the lesson is to count revenue and not just registrations. Two provinces five ranks apart on companies can sit twelve ranks apart on revenue. Both sit far below the big industrial provinces, so the real contest is between two mid-table provinces, with Buri Ram a little higher up.
Definitions
- Registered company
- A juristic person listed in the DBD registry under the province of its registered office.
- Reported revenue
- Total revenue shown in filed financial statements, summed across companies in a province.
- Revenue per company
- Province revenue divided by its registered company count, so non-filers pull the figure down.
- Aggregate
- A total or ratio computed across all companies in a group, not an average of individual company results.
Assumptions
- Companies are assigned to the province of their registered office, which may differ from where they operate.
- Revenue includes only companies that filed a statement, so revenue per company is understated where filing is lower.
- A few large companies can move a small province's revenue total, so ratios describe totals and not the typical firm.
- Registry data as of 17 July 2026 was newer than the earlier 7 July anchor, and this page uses the newer rows.
Methodology
Company counts and revenue come from the Department of Business Development registry as aggregated by province, as of 17 July 2026. Revenue is the sum of revenue reported in filed financial statements by companies registered in each province. Companies that have not filed contribute to the count but not to revenue. Ranks cover the 77 areas in the province table, including Bangkok. Shares use the national total of 1,989,709 companies and 80.15 trillion baht of revenue. Ratios are simple divisions of the two provincial figures.
