How big is the Bueng Kan economy?

Small. Bueng Kan holds 2,326 registered companies as of 17 July 2026 (DBD, 2026). That is 0.12 percent of the 1,989,709 companies in the national registry. Those companies report 17.66 billion baht in revenue, which is 0.022 percent of the 80.15 trillion baht national total. Among the 77 provinces including Bangkok, only Mae Hong Son reports less revenue. Bueng Kan was carved out of Nong Khai in 2011 as Thailand's 77th province, and the registry shows a young province still building its commercial base.

Companies, revenue and rank among 77 provinces, as of 17 Jul 2026. Rank 1 is the largest.

Does the split show up in the numbers?

Yes, and in a lopsided way. Add the two provinces together and you get 8,041 companies and 62.43 billion baht. Bueng Kan holds 28.9 percent of those companies. It holds 28.3 percent of the revenue. The younger province is slightly thinner per company, but only slightly. Bueng Kan earns 7.59 million baht per company and Nong Khai earns 7.83 million, so Bueng Kan sits at 96.9 percent of its parent. Both rank in the bottom ten for revenue per company, at 73rd and 71st. Size separates the two provinces far more than productivity does. Bueng Kan has 40.7 percent of Nong Khai's companies and 39.4 percent of its revenue. The combined figures are our own sum of two current rows and do not describe the pre-2011 province.

Why this matters

A new province gets a governor, a budget line and a place on the investment map, but a registry cannot manufacture companies. Bueng Kan shows how slowly a commercial base builds after an administrative upgrade. Fifteen years on, it has almost the same number of companies as Amnat Charoen, 2,326 against 2,288, and reports 15.1 percent less revenue. For lenders, suppliers and anyone choosing where to open a branch, the point is practical. Bueng Kan is a small market of small firms, and its per-company revenue is no weaker than its parent's. The gap to the national figure of 40.28 million baht is where the real story sits, because Bueng Kan earns 18.8 percent of it. The constraint is the scale of each company, not the count.

Definitions

Registered company
A juristic person listed in the DBD registry under its recorded province, whether or not it has filed a financial statement.
Revenue per company
Total reported revenue of a province divided by its number of registered companies.
Aggregate
A total or ratio computed over all companies in a group, not an average of individual company figures.

Assumptions

Methodology

Company counts and revenue come from the Department of Business Development registry aggregates by province, as of 17 July 2026. Revenue is the sum of revenue reported in filed financial statements for companies registered in each province, so companies that have not filed contribute no revenue. Revenue per company divides province revenue by all registered companies in that province, including those without a filed statement, which understates revenue per reporting company. Two small groups of companies with no province recorded are excluded from rankings, leaving 77 provinces including Bangkok. Combined Bueng Kan and Nong Khai figures are a simple sum of the two current rows.
