How many directors control more than one company?

The answer begins with one large number and a clean split. Thailand's registry holds 3,215,544 director records as of 2 July 2026 (DBD, 2026). Of those, 2,702,433 are linked to exactly one company. The remaining 513,111 are linked to two or more, which works out to 16.0 percent of all directors. The average director sits across 1.29 companies, a figure pulled upward by a small set of very connected people. Most control in Thailand is shallow. A real minority runs a modest portfolio. A rare few sit at the center of dozens or hundreds of firms at once.

The single-company band dwarfs every other. Multi-company control is real, but it lives in the long tail.

Why this matters

Control concentration is a quiet force in any economy. When one director record is linked to 930 companies, that says something about how corporate groups, nominee arrangements and holding structures stack up in Thailand. The 930 figure is an aggregate count of registry links, not a claim about any individual. Zoom out and the shape is stark. The top 7,682 directors, just 0.24 percent of the total, anchor a large slice of the country's corporate scaffolding. Company health sits underneath all of it. The average survival rate across director records is 45.7 percent, a reminder that many companies attached to these names are dormant or already wound down. International bodies treat overlapping board control as a competition and governance question worth measuring (OECD, 2009). For anyone mapping ownership, market power or counterparty risk in Thailand, the distribution of director control tells you more than a simple headcount ever could.

The share of a director's linked companies that are still active rather than dormant or closed.
Dormant
A company that is still registered but no longer trading or filing active returns.

Assumptions

Methodology

Figures count director records in the Department of Business Development registry as of 2 July 2026. A director record is a person to company link, so one individual can appear across several companies and one company can list several directors. The counts of directors linked to two or more, five or more, and ten or more companies are exact registry tallies. The band figures for two to four, five to nine, and ten or more are derived by subtracting the higher thresholds from the lower ones. Survival rate is the share of a director's linked companies that remain active. No natural person is named or identified.
