How Many Thai Directors Hold 2, 5 or 10+ Company Seats (2026)
In short
About 16.0 percent of Thailand's 3,215,544 director records hold seats at two or more companies, as of 17 July 2026. Only 1.40 percent reach five companies. Just 0.24 percent, or 7,682 records, reach ten or more. Each rung of the ladder is steep, and the typical director sits on exactly one board.
How concentrated is board control in Thailand?
Mostly not concentrated at all. Of 3,215,544 director records in the registry, 2,702,433 sit on a single company (DBD, 2026). That is 84.04 percent. Another 513,111 records, or 15.96 percent, appear on two or more companies. The ladder then drops fast. Only 45,135 records reach five companies, which is 1.40 percent of the total. At the top, 7,682 records reach ten or more, a share of 0.24 percent. Multi-seat records run to the hundreds of thousands, but heavy multi-seat holders are a rounding error against the whole.

The seat ladder in counts
| Seat band | Director records | Share of all records |
|---|---|---|
| Exactly 1 company | 2,702,433 | 84.04% |
| 2 to 4 companies | 467,976 | 14.55% |
| 5 to 9 companies | 37,453 | 1.16% |
| 10 or more companies | 7,682 | 0.24% |
| 2 or more, cumulative | 513,111 | 15.96% |
| 5 or more, cumulative | 45,135 | 1.40% |
| All director records | 3,215,544 | 100% |
Director records by number of company seats held, as of 17 Jul 2026. Cumulative thresholds are registry counts. Bands are derived by subtraction.
How steep is each step up the ladder?
Step from two seats to five and only 8.80 percent of multi-seat records make it. Step from five to ten and only 17.02 percent do. The second climb is easier than the first. Once a record holds five seats, the jump to ten is less rare than the jump from two to five. Put another way, there are 66.8 multi-seat records for every one that reaches ten. The middle of the distribution is thin, and the very top is thinner still.
Why this matters
Board control in Thailand is a story of many small boards, not a few dominant seat holders. With 1.62 director records per registered company, most boards draw on records that appear nowhere else. That matters for anyone assessing counterparty risk, because a shared-director link between two companies is unusual rather than routine. It also matters for policy. A rule aimed at directors with ten or more seats would touch about one in 419 records. A rule aimed at two or more would touch about one in six. Choosing the threshold is the whole debate, and the ladder shows what each choice covers. This page counts records only and identifies no individual.
Definitions
- Director record
- One director entry in the company registry. It may not equal one unique person.
- Seat
- A directorship at one registered company.
- Cumulative threshold
- A count of all records at or above a level, so five or more includes ten or more.
- Aggregate
- A total or share across many records, with no individual shown.
Assumptions
- Director thresholds are the verified constants from the 7 July 2026 computation, while the company total was re-read from the 17 July 2026 refresh and was unchanged at 1,989,709.
- Records may include duplicates of one person under spelling variants, so true multi-seat shares could differ.
- The registry counts current filings and does not show whether a seat is still active.
Methodology
Counts come from the Department of Business Development registry of director records, as of the Max Data refresh of 17 July 2026 for company totals. Director thresholds use the verified aggregate constants from the 7 July 2026 computation, because the person-level table is not open to the read-only role. A record is counted once per director entry and assigned to a seat band by how many companies it appears on. Bands such as 2 to 4 are derived by subtracting cumulative counts. No names or identifiers are published.
How we verified this
- 513,111 divided by 3,215,544 equals 15.96 percent, shown as about 16 percent.
- 45,135 divided by 3,215,544 equals 1.40 percent.
- 7,682 divided by 3,215,544 equals 0.24 percent.
- 3,215,544 minus 513,111 equals 2,702,433 single-seat records, 84.04 percent.
- 513,111 minus 45,135 equals 467,976 records with 2 to 4 seats, 14.55 percent. 45,135 minus 7,682 equals 37,453 with 5 to 9 seats, 1.16 percent.
- Band shares sum: 84.04 + 14.55 + 1.16 + 0.24 equals 99.99 percent, a rounding gap of 0.01.
- 45,135 divided by 513,111 equals 8.80 percent. 7,682 divided by 45,135 equals 17.02 percent. 513,111 divided by 7,682 equals 66.8.
- 3,215,544 divided by 7,682 equals about 1 in 419 records, and 3,215,544 divided by 513,111 equals about 1 in 6. 3,215,544 divided by 1,989,709 registered companies equals 1.62. National total of 1,989,709 confirmed in market_national_insight, computed 17 July 2026.
