Which province has the bigger business base?

Nakhon Pathom, on both counts. It holds 27,359 registered companies (DBD, 2026), which ranks 13th among Thai provinces. Ratchaburi holds 11,932 and ranks 23rd. Put the two side by side and Nakhon Pathom has 15,427 more companies, or 2.29 times as many. On revenue it leads too, with 735.9 billion baht against 373.5 billion. That is a lead of 1.97 times, a little under the company ratio. The shortfall points to something more interesting than size. Ratchaburi companies are, on average, bigger earners.

Why the revenue story flips

Count companies and Nakhon Pathom looks more than twice the size. Count baht and the lead narrows. Ratchaburi's average company books 31.3 million baht, which is 16 percent more than the 26.9 million at Nakhon Pathom. The registry does not say why. A plausible reading is that Nakhon Pathom carries a longer tail of small registrations, while Ratchaburi's revenue rests on a thinner base of larger firms. Either way, neither province is a giant. Nakhon Pathom holds 0.92 percent of national reported revenue. Ratchaburi holds 0.47 percent. Both sit far below the national average of 40.3 million baht per company.

Why this matters

Anyone sizing a western Thai market should not stop at the headcount. A sales team that targets by company count will aim at Nakhon Pathom and find a crowded field of smaller accounts. A team that targets by revenue per company will find Ratchaburi's pool smaller but richer per name. The two provinces are neighbours on the same corridor, yet they reward different strategies. Count tells you how many doors there are. Revenue per company tells you what is behind them.

Definitions

Assumptions

Methodology

Company counts and total reported revenue by province come from the Department of Business Development registry aggregates, computed on 17 July 2026 and described here as of 17 July 2026. Counts cover all registered juristic persons assigned to the province. Revenue sums filed financial statements only, so unfiled companies add to the count but not to revenue. Revenue per company divides province revenue by all registered companies, a deliberate simple measure that is lower than the average among filers. Comparison provinces in the chart use the same method. The national average uses 1,989,709 companies and about 80.15 trillion baht.
