Which neighbour has more business?
It depends on whether you count doors or baht. Pathum Thani registers 81,256 companies (DBD, 2026), which is 4.08 percent of the national total. Samut Sakhon registers 31,030, or 1.56 percent. The company gap is wide and the revenue gap is narrow, so each Samut Sakhon company must be carrying much more. Revenue per registered company comes to about 43.2 million baht there and 25.8 million baht in Pathum Thani.

Why the ratio flips
A small count with a large revenue figure usually signals bigger operating units. Samut Sakhon is a province of factories and fish and food processing, so a few large employers lift the average. Pathum Thani spreads across housing estates, shops, logistics yards and a long tail of micro firms. That reading is an inference from the numbers, not a measured fact in the registry. What the data does show is that revenue per company in Samut Sakhon is 1.67 times that of Pathum Thani. Keep the wider ring in view too. Samut Prakan earns 49.4 million baht per company, ahead of both.
Why this matters
Anyone sizing a market near Bangkok should not stop at the company count. A salesperson who wants the most leads should start in Pathum Thani. A supplier who wants fewer, larger buyers should look hard at Samut Sakhon. Site selectors face the same split. Pathum Thani offers depth, with 50,226 more companies than its neighbour. Samut Sakhon offers weight, with each registered company carrying about 17.4 million baht more revenue on average. Neither province is the bigger business in every sense, and the right pick follows the job you need done.
Definitions
- Registered company
- A juristic person listed in the DBD registry with a registered address in the province, whether or not it is trading.
- Revenue per registered company
- Total filed revenue in a province divided by all registered companies in that province, including those that filed nothing.
- Aggregate
- A total or ratio computed over a whole group, here a province, rather than an average of individual company figures.
Assumptions
- Revenue includes only companies that filed a financial statement, while the divisor includes every registered company.
- Large firms can book revenue at a registered head office address that differs from where activity happens.
- The reason for the gap between the two provinces is interpretation and is not recorded in the registry.
Methodology
Registered company counts and filed revenue by province come from the Department of Business Development registry, aggregated by province as of 17 July 2026. Revenue covers only companies that filed a financial statement, but the per company figure divides it by all registered companies in the province, so it understates revenue per filer and is best read as a comparison between provinces. Provinces are assigned by registered address. The explanation of why the ratio flips is an interpretation, not a registry field.
