Why the gap is so wide
The registry cannot say why, but the shape points to a few big filers. Rayong is a heavy industry and port province, and a small number of very large companies would lift its average. Chon Buri has a far longer list of registered companies, and the revenue is spread across many more of them. Neighbouring Chachoengsao reports 13,799 companies and 0.85 trillion baht. That is 61.5 million baht per company, well above Chon Buri and well below Rayong. Read the ratio as a description of structure and not a verdict on performance.
Why this matters
Anyone choosing between the two provinces for a factory, a supplier contract or a sales team should start from a different question in each. In Rayong the buyers are few and big, so winning one account moves the needle. In Chon Buri the market is wide, so reach and volume matter more than any single customer. A raw company count would send you to Chon Buri. A revenue-per-company view would send you to Rayong. The honest answer is that Thailand's eastern seaboard has two different kinds of strength, and the number you pick decides which one you see.
Definitions
- Revenue per company
- Total reported revenue of a province divided by its number of registered companies.
- Registered company
- A juristic person on the DBD registry, whether or not it is currently trading or has filed accounts.
- Aggregate
- A total or ratio computed across all companies in a group, not an average of individual company figures.
Assumptions
- Revenue includes only companies that filed a financial statement, while the denominator counts every registered company, so averages understate the typical filer.
- Companies are assigned to the province of their registered address, which may differ from where they operate.
- A few very large filers can lift a provincial average, so revenue per company is not a median.
Methodology
Company counts and total reported revenue per province come from the Department of Business Development registry, aggregated by registered province and read as of 17 July 2026. Revenue covers only companies that filed a financial statement, while the company count covers all registered companies, so revenue per company is a registry average and not a measure of typical firm size. Percent shares use 1,989,709 registered companies and 80,146,498,562,464 baht of national reported revenue as denominators. Figures were computed from the aggregate province table and no company or person is identified.
