Registered companies, reported revenue and revenue per company by province, as of 17 Jul 2026.
Why small provinces can top the table
Size and richness are different things here. Nakhon Ratchasima holds 33,958 companies, the most in the region, yet it ranks third on revenue per company. Buri Ram holds only 9,325 companies and ranks first. Revenue per company is an average, so one large taxpayer in a small province moves it a long way. Provinces with a handful of big factories or distributors can look rich on this measure while most of their firms stay small. Khon Kaen and Udon Thani, two of the region's largest cities, land in the middle at 13.29 and 11.16 million baht. The median province in the ranking earns 11.03 million baht per company, so Buri Ram sits 1.62 times above the middle.
Why this matters
Isan pooled revenue per company is 13.12 million baht, about one third of the 40.28 million baht national figure. That gap with the rest of the country is real, but it is not the whole story. Inside the region the spread is 2.36 times, and the best provinces sit well above the pooled number while the worst sit far below it. Anyone sizing sales territories, branch networks or credit exposure in the Northeast should work province by province. The headline average describes almost no single province well. Only nine of the 20 beat it.
Definitions
- Revenue per company
- Total reported revenue of a province divided by its number of registered companies.
- Pooled figure
- Total revenue of all 20 provinces divided by their total company count, which weights large provinces more heavily than small ones.
- Isan
- The Northeast region of Thailand, made up of 20 provinces.
- Median
- The middle value when provinces are sorted. Half sit above it and half below.
Assumptions
- The company count includes every registered company, but revenue comes only from companies that filed a financial statement.
- Revenue is booked at the province of registration, which may differ from where the sales activity happens.
- A single large company can lift a small province's average, so rank does not describe a typical firm.
- The registry rows were refreshed on 17 July 2026, later than the 7 July 2026 national anchors, so the national figure is quoted from the earlier anchor.
Methodology
Revenue per company is each province's total reported revenue divided by its registered company count, drawn from the Department of Business Development registry as of 17 July 2026. The Northeast is the 20 provinces conventionally grouped as Isan: Amnat Charoen, Bueng Kan, Buri Ram, Chaiyaphum, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Loei, Maha Sarakham, Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Nong Khai, Roi Et, Sakon Nakhon, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani and Yasothon. The denominator counts every registered company, while the revenue comes only from companies that filed a financial statement, so the figure understates revenue per filing company. The pooled Isan figure is total revenue over total companies, not a simple average of provinces. The national figure uses 80,148,033,688,000 baht over 1,989,709 registered companies.
How we verified this
- Buri Ram: 166,973,704,358.42 baht divided by 9,325 companies equals 17,906,027 baht, shown as 17.91 million.
- Bueng Kan: 17,655,312,935.66 baht divided by 2,326 companies equals 7,590,418 baht, shown as 7.59 million.
- Gap: 17.906 divided by 7.590 equals 2.36 times.
- Isan totals: the 20 province company counts sum to 179476 and revenue sums to 2354057400182.89 baht, so the pooled figure is 13.12 million baht.
- Provinces above the pooled 13.12 million baht: Buri Ram, Mukdahan, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, Roi Et, Surin, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Khon Kaen and Si Sa Ket, which is 9 of 20.
- National figure: 80,148,033,688,000 divided by 1,989,709 equals 40.28 million baht, and 13.12 divided by 40.28 equals 0.326, about one third.
- Median of the 20 provinces is the mean of the 10th and 11th values, 11.16 and 10.90, which is 11.03 million baht. 17.91 divided by 11.03 equals 1.62.
- Rows were re-sorted by revenue per company in descending order and matched the table and chart order.
