Which Thai Industries One Company Dominates (2026)
In short
PTT Exploration and Production holds 19.68 percent of all mining and quarrying revenue, the steepest single-company dominance of any measured Thai sector as of 2 July 2026. Hua Seng Heng Commoditas is close behind, holding 15.91 percent of wholesale and retail trade, the country's largest sector by company count. Administrative and support and information and communication follow above 13 percent. The average top firm across 18 measured sections holds just 7.81 percent of its sector. Accommodation and food service sits at the other end, where Minor International holds only 2.07 percent. Field size and dominance move on separate tracks.
Which industries does one company dominate?
Rank Thailand's industry sections by how much of their revenue a single company controls and mining tops the list. PTT Exploration and Production books 85.47 billion baht of the sector's 434.27 billion baht total, a 19.68 percent share, the steepest single-firm dominance measured anywhere in the registry (DBD, 2026). Wholesale and retail trade is close behind at 15.91 percent, where Hua Seng Heng Commoditas alone accounts for 5,556.70 billion baht of the sector's 34,929.35 billion baht. Administrative and support services ranks third at 14.73 percent behind True Move H. Information and communication follows at 13.33 percent behind Advanced Wireless Network. Arts and entertainment rounds out the top five at 12.12 percent behind Lotteryplus. Eighteen of the 21 lettered sections carry a usable pair of figures for this ratio. Public administration, households and extraterritorial organizations are left out, each with fewer than 40 registered companies, too thin a base for a stable share.

Each section's aggregate revenue, its single highest-revenue company, and that company's share of the section total, as of 2 Jul 2026.
Why this matters
Field size and dominance turn out to be unrelated. Mining is the smallest arena measured here, with just 8,231 registered companies, yet its leader claims the highest top-firm share of any sector. Wholesale and retail trade is the largest field by far, with 715,976 companies, 87 times mining's count, and its leader still claims almost as large a share of the sector as mining's leader claims of its own. The average top firm across the 18 measured sections holds 7.81 percent of its sector's revenue. Mining's leader holds about two and a half times that average. Accommodation and food service sits at the opposite pole. Minor International, its sector leader, holds only 2.07 percent of the total, so mining's dominance ratio runs about nine and a half times higher than the least concentrated sector measured. Ownership research from the OECD found strategic individuals sit as the largest shareholder in 51 percent of Thai listed companies, holding an average 26 percent equity stake (OECD, 2025). Concentration inside a sector and concentration inside a shareholder register are two different measures, but both point the same direction. Thai corporate revenue and Thai corporate ownership both cluster around a small number of controlling parties. A lender assessing sector risk, a regulator watching for market power, or a challenger sizing up a field should read the top-firm share as a signal of how much room is actually open to a newcomer.
Definitions
- Top-firm share
- The revenue of a sector's single highest-revenue company divided by the sector's total reported revenue, expressed as a percent.
- TSIC section
- One of the 21 lettered groupings in the Thailand Standard Industrial Classification, the coding scheme every registered company is sorted into, such as mining or wholesale and retail trade.
- Aggregate sector revenue
- The sum of reported revenue across every company classified to a section that filed a financial statement.
- Filing entity
- The single registered company that reports its own revenue. A corporate group made of several filing entities is measured as its separate parts, not as one combined brand.
Assumptions
- Only companies that filed a financial statement contribute to a section's total revenue and to the top-company figure, so unfiled or dormant firms are excluded.
- Public administration, households and extraterritorial organizations are excluded because each has fewer than 40 registered companies, too thin a base for a stable ratio.
- The top company in each section is the single highest-revenue filing entity, not a combined corporate group, so a group that reports through several subsidiaries can appear less dominant than its overall brand.
- Revenue figures are rounded to two decimal places in billion baht for display, so a share recomputed from the rounded table can differ slightly from the more precise figure stated in the text.
Methodology
Top-firm share is each industry section's top_company_revenue divided by its total_revenue, both drawn from the Department of Business Development registry as of 2 July 2026. Sections cover the 21 lettered TSIC groupings, but public administration, households and extraterritorial organizations are dropped because each has fewer than 40 registered companies, leaving 18 sections ranked here. The top company in a section is the single filing entity with the highest reported revenue, not a combined corporate group. Shares are computed directly from the raw revenue figures and then rounded to two decimal places for display.
How we verified this
- Recomputed mining's share as 85,469,910,000 divided by 434,265,492,368.50, which equals 0.19681, or 19.68 percent.
- Recomputed wholesale and retail's share as 5,556,701,724,240.86 divided by 34,929,351,730,992.31, which equals 0.15908, or 15.91 percent.
- Summed all 18 measured shares to 140.56 percentage points and divided by 18, giving 7.81 percent, the stated average.
- Divided the highest measured share by the lowest: 19.68 divided by 2.07 equals 9.51, matching the stated spread of about nine and a half times.
- Confirmed three sections, public administration, households and extraterritorial organizations, were excluded for having fewer than 40 registered companies, leaving 18 of 21 sections ranked.
- Checked the wholesale and retail company count of 715,976 against the mining count of 8,231, a ratio of about 87 times, matching the figure used in the prose.
